ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(15)H(17)BrN(2)O(2), both pyrrolidinone rings adopt envelope conformations. The crystal packing is characterized by short C-Br?O=C inter-actions [Br?O = 3.1730?(13)?Å], leading to supra-molecular dimers. Inter-molecular C-H?O and C-H?? inter-actions are also observed.

Project description:In the title mol-ecule, C22H18O, the o-tolyl ring is connected through a conjugated double bond. The mol-ecule adopts an E conformation and the C-C=C-C torsion angle is 178.77?(13)°. The overall conformation may be described by the values of dihedral angles between the different planes. The terminal rings are twisted by an angle of 54.75?(8)°, while the biphenyl part is not planar, the dihedral angle between the planes of the rings being 40.65?(8)°. The dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 14.10?(7)°. There are three weak C-H?? inter-actions found in the crystal structure. No classic hydrogen bonds are observed.

Project description:The overall shape of the mol-ecule of the title compound, C(17)H(15)BrO(2), can be described by the dihedral angles between three planar fragments: 1-bromo-2-meth-oxy-phenyl ring [maximum deviation = 0.003?(2)?Å], the central prop-2-en-1-one chain [maximum deviation = 0.005?(2)?Å], and the methyl-phenyl ring [maximum deviation = 0.004?(2)?Å]. The terminal planes are twisted by 10.37?(12)°, while the central plane is almost coplanar with the methyl-phenyl ring [3.30?(13)°], but the dihedral angle with the other phenyl ring is significantly larger [8.76?(16)°]. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into chains along [001] by three C-H?O hydrogen bonds. The C-O bond of the hy-droxy group subtends an angle of 31.71?(10)° with the plane through the central aromatic ring. The crystal packing is mediated by the presence of several O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions and while the water mol-ecules form a C(2) (1)(4) chain parallel to the c axis of the unit cell, the pendant hy-droxy groups are engaged in O-H?O=C hydrogen bonds described by a C(1) (1)(12) graph-set motif which runs parallel to the a axis.
