ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(20)H(12)N(2)O(2), the phenyl and benzene rings are mutually perpendicular, with the dihedral angle between the phenyl rings being 87.92?(16)° and those formed between the phenyl rings and the benzene rings being 73.68?(15) and 84.65?(15)°. Helical supra-molecular chains along [010], mediated by C-H?N inter-actions, are found in the crystal structure.

The crystal structure features undulating mol-ecular sheets with the mol-ecules linked by C-H?N hydrogen bonds with one N atom acting as a bifurcated acceptor. N?Br inter-actions also occur [N?Br = 2.991?(3) and 3.099?(3)?Å]. Inter-layer association is accomplished by offset face-to-face arene inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.768?(4)?Å].

Project description:In the solid state, the title compound, C18H13N5O, adopts a conformation whereby the phenyl ring and meth-oxy-benzene-1,2-dicarbo-nitrile residue (r.m.s. deviation of the 12 non-H atoms = 0.041?Å) lie to opposite sides of the central triazolyl ring, forming dihedral angles of 79.30?(13) and 64.59?(10)°, respectively; the dihedral angle between the outer rings is 14.88?(9)°. This conformation is nearly 7 kcal mol(-1) higher in energy than the energy-minimized structure which has a syn disposition of the outer rings, enabling intra-molecular ?-? inter-actions. In the crystal, methyl-ene-C-H?N(triazol-yl) and carbo-nitrile-N??(benzene) inter-actions lead to supra-molecular chains along the a axis. Supra-molecular layers in the ab plane arise as the chains are connected by benzene-C-H?N(carbo-nitrile) inter-actions; layers stack with no directional inter-actions between them. The specified inter-molecular contacts along with other, weaker contributions to the supra-molecular stabilization are analysed in a Hirshfeld surface analysis.

Project description:The title compound, C7H8N2O2, formed by dehydration of the corresponding dicarboxamide, crystallizes as rectangular prisms. The mol-ecules have a C 2 axis of symmetry through the C atom bearing the methyl groups and the mid-point of the ring C-C bond, and the 1,3-dioxolane ring adopts the extreme twist conformation of the two possible with this symmetry. This brings the two nitrile groups nearest to a linear arrangement when the mol-ecule is viewed along the ring C-C bond. The correct absolute configuration of the mol-ecule was defined by that of the original starting material, (2R,3R)-tartaric acid. The packing is largely controlled by a number of C-H?N interactions.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, C(8)H(8)I(2), conforms closely to the mm2 symmetry expected for the free mol-ecule and is the first reported structure of a diiodo-dimethyl-benzene. Repulsion by neighboring I atoms and the neighboring methyl groups opposite to them results in a slight elongation of the mol-ecule along the approximate twofold rotation axis that bis-ects the ring between the two I atoms. In the extended structure, the mol-ecules form inversion-related pairs which are organized in approximately hexa-gonal close-packed layers and the layers then stacked so that mol-ecules in neighboring layers abut head-to-tail in a manner that optimizes dipole-dipole inter-actions.

In both molecules, there is a short O-H?N interaction involving the OH group and the adjacent N atom. In the crystal, there are O-H?N hydrogen bonds, and C-H?O and N-H?O interactions linking the molecules to form a three-dimensional network. ?-? stacking between the pyridine and benzene rings and between the benzene rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.989?(2), 3.705?(2) and 3.607?(2)?Å] may further stabilize the structure. A weak C-H?? inter-action is present in the crystal.
