4-[2-(Benzyl-amino)-phen-yl]-2,6-dimethyl-quinoline N-oxide.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(24)H(22)N(2)O, was obtained in a two-step procedure from the corresponding 4-(2-iodo-phen-yl)quinoline. The quinoline system is approximately planar [maximum deviation from the least-squares plane = 0.021?(2)?Å]. The planes of the quinoline system and the phenyl ring subtend a dihedral angle of 78.08?(8)°. In the crystal, pairs of mol-ecules are connected via a center of symmetry and linked by a pair of angular N-H?O hydrogen bond. These dimers form columns oriented along the c axis.

Strong intra-molecular N→Se inter-actions [2.185 (3) and 2.181 (3) Å] are established by both N atoms of the organic group in the cation, in trans positions to each other, with an N-Se-N angle of 161.6 (1)°, resulting in a T-shaped (C,N,N')Se core. In the crystal, dimeric associations are formed by Br⋯Se [3.662 (2) Å] and Br⋯H inter-actions [2.56 (6) and 2.63 (7) Å] involving two bromide anions, two cations and two water mol-ecules.

Project description:In the title mol-ecule, C(27)H(20)N(2)O, a triphenyl-amine derivative of quinoline, the three benzene rings linked through an N atom form a propeller shape, with dihedral angles between the mean planes of pairs of rings of 75.57 (9), 55.68 (9) and 83.66 (9)°. The quinoline ring is essentially planar, with an r.m.s. deviation of the fitted atoms of 0.0155 Å, and forms a dihedral angle of 33.52 (8)° with the benzene ring to which it is bonded. Weak C-H⋯π inter-actions are also observed in the crystal structure.
