ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title organic salt, 2C(5)H(6)N(+)·C(10)H(6)O(6)S(2) (2-)·2H(2)O, consists of a pyridinium cation, half a naphthalene-1,5-disulfonate dianion and a water mol-ecule. The dianion has a crystallographically imposed centre of symmetry. In the crystal, N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link cations, anions and water mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network.

In the dication, the dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 74.67 (6)°. The cations and anions inter-act through N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The NH(3) (+) functional groups are also involved in N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds with the water mol-ecules, forming an infinite three-dimensional framework in the crystal structure.

Project description:The reaction of ethane-1,2-di-amine (en, C2H8N2), the sodium salt of naphthalene-1,5-di-sulfonic acid (H2NDS, C10H8O6S2), and nickel sulfate in an aqueous solution resulted in the formation of the title salt, [Ni(C2H8N2)(H2O)4](C10H6O6S2)·2H2O or [Ni(en)(H2O)4](NDS)·2H2O. In the asymmetric unit, one half of an [Ni(en)(H2O)4]2+ cation and one half of an NDS2- anion, and one water mol-ecule of crystallization are present. The Ni2+ cation in the complex is positioned on a twofold rotation axis and exhibits a slight tetra-gonal distortion of the cis-NiO4N2 octa-hedron, with an Ni-N bond length of 2.0782 (16) Å, and Ni-O bond lengths of 2.1170 (13) Å and 2.0648 (14) Å. The anion is completed by inversion symmetry. In the extended structure, the cations, anions, and non-coordinating water mol-ecules are connected by inter-molecular N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding, as well as C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The title hydrated mol-ecular organic salt, C10H10N2 (2+)·C10H6O6S2 (2-)·2H2O, crystallized with half a bipyridinium cation, half a naphthalene-2,6-di-sulfonate anion and a water mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The whole cation and anion are generated by inversion symmetry, the inversion centers being at the center of the bridging C-C bond of the cation, and at the center of the fused C-C bond of the naphthalene group of the anion. In the crystal, the anions and cations stack alternately along the a axis with π-π inter-actions [inter-centroid distance = 3.491 (1) Å]. The anions are linked via O-H⋯O(sulfonate) hydrogen bonds involving two inversion-related water mol-ecules, forming chains along [10-1]. These chains are bridged by bifurcated N-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional framework structure. There are also C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds present, reinforcing the framework structure.

The dipyridinium salt demonstrates a skew conformation based upon C-O-C-C torsion angles of 61.5?(3) and 15.1?(4)°. A C-O-C angle of 119.3?(2)° and C-O bond distances of 1.364?(3) and 1.389?(3)?Å are consistent with other dipyridyl ethers. The planes of the pyridyl rings exhibit a twist angle of 67.89?(8)°. One of the tri-fluoro-methane-sulfonate ions shows disorder of the F atoms [in a 0.52?(7):0.48?(7) occupancy ratio] and an O atom [0.64?(8):0.36?(8) occupancy ratio]. In the crystal, the components are linked by C-H?O inter-actions, which form chains along [101].

Project description:The title compound, C12H12O2, lies across an inversion centre. The mol-ecular structure suggests that the meth-oxy groups in the 1- and 5-positions of the naphthalene moiety do not significantly distort the planar conformation of the ring system, which has a maximum deviation of 0.0025?(9)?Å. In the crystal, mol-ecules pack in a herringbone arrangement in layers parallel to (100) and with chains propagating along [101] formed by very weak C-H?O inter-actions.
