There has been scant work to investigate the mechanisms influencing macronutrient selection by mice. Here, we measured the consumption and choice of carbohydrate- and fat-containing diets by NZW/LacJ (NZW) and BTBR/T+ tf/J (BTBR) strains. We found that NZW mice voluntarily ate more carbohydrate and less fat than did BTBR mice.
