Catena-Poly[[(benzil bis{[(pyridin-2-yl)methylidene]hydrazone}-??N,N',N'',N''')mercury(II)]-?-chlorido-[dichloridomercury(II)]-?-chlorido].

ABSTRACT: In the title coordination polymer, [Hg?Cl?(C??H??N?)](n), one Hg(II) ion is coordinated by four N atoms from the benzylbis((pyridin-2-yl)methyl-idenehydrazone) ligand and two Cl? ions in a very distorted cis-HgCl?N? octa-hedral geometry. The other Hg(II) ion is coordinated in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry by four Cl? ions. Bridging chloride ions link the Hg(II) ions into a chain propagating in [010]: the Hg-Cl bridging bonds are significantly longer than the terminal bonds. The dihedral angle between the central benzene rings of the ligand is 83.3?(2)°. The packing is consolidated by weak C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds and C-H?? inter-actions.

The ligand shows a non-coplanar conformation, in which the dihedral angles between the two terminal pyridine rings and the linking benzene ring are 7.275?(17) and 74.020?(14)°. The flexible ligands link the Hg(II) atoms into a chain running along [010], with an Hg?Hg separation of 10.335?(5)?Å, which is equal to the b axis. Project description:In the title coordination polymer, [Hg(2)Cl(4)(C(6)H(12)N(2))](n), each Hg(II) center within the chain is four-coordinated by one terminal Cl atom, two bridging μ(2)-Cl atoms, and one N-atom donor from a μ(2)-1,4-diaza-bicyclo-[2.2.2]octane (μ(2)-daco) ligand in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The daco ligand acts as an end-to-end bridging ligand and bridges adjacent Hg(II) centers, forming a chain running along [001]. Weak C-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bonding inter-actions link the chains into a three-dimensional network. Comparison of the structural differences with previous findings suggests that the space between the two N donors, as well as the skeletal rigidity in N-heterocyclic linear ligands, may play an important role in the construction of such supra-molecular networks.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Cu(C(2)H(3)O(3))Cl(H(2)O)](n), the Cu(II) ion is five-coordinate in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. Two O atoms from a chelating glycolate anion, an O atom from a coordinated water mol-ecule and a chloride anion comprise the basal plane. The Hg(II) atom is four-coordinated in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry by one terminal Cl atom, two bridging Cl atoms, and one C atom from the ylidic ligand, resulting in a polymeric chain parallel to [010]. The terminal Cl atom is more strongly bound to the Hg(II) ion [2.3916?(9)?Å] than the bridging Cl atoms. The bridge is asymmetric, as indicated by the two different Hg-Cl(bridging) bond lengths [2.5840?(8) and 2.7876?(8)?Å]. Intra-molecular C-H?O and weak C-H?Cl contacts stabilize the polymeric chain. In the crystal, adjacent chains inter-act via C-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the title compound, {(C(10)H(12)N(3)O(3)S)(2)[CdCl(4)]·H(2)O}(n), the Cd(II) atom is five-coordinate with a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry formed by chloride ions. The crystal packing is further stabilized by weak inter-molecular C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds and ?-? inter-actions between the pyridine rings, with a centroid-centroid separation of 3.529?(9)?Å.
