ABSTRACT: The Zn(II) atom in the title compound, [Zn(C(6)H(12)NOS(2))Cl(C(10)H(8)N(2))], is coordinated by a chelating N-2-hy-droxy-ethyl-N-isopropyl-dithio-carbamate ligand, a 2,2'-bipyridine ligand and a Cl atom. The resulting ClN(2)S(2) donor set defines a distorted square-pyramidal coordination geometry. Helical supra-molecular chains sustained by O-H?S hydrogen bonds and propagating along the b axis feature in the crystal packing. A three-dimensional architecture is stabilized by C-H?O, C-H?S and C-H?Cl inter-actions.

Project description:The complete mol-ecule of the title compound, [Zn(C(4)H(8)NS(2))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))], is generated by crystallographic twofold symmetry, with the Zn atom lying on the rotation axis; the axis also bis-ects the central C-C bond of the 2,2'-bipyridine mol-ecule. The metal atom is chelated by two S,S'-bidentate dithio-carbamate anions and the N,N'-bidentate heterocycle, resulting in a distorted cis-ZnN(2)S(4) octa-hedral geometry. The methyl and ethyl groups of the anion are statistically disordered.

The pyridine N atom coordinates to the Zn(II) cation, which is also chelated by two dimethyl-dithio-carbamate anions, giving a trigonal-bipyramidal ZnNS(4) geometry. Weak inter-molecular C-H?S hydrogen bonding is present in the crystal structure.

Project description:The common feature of the title compounds, [Zn(C5H10NO2S2)2(C10H8N2)]·2H2O, (I), and [Zn(C6H12NOS2)2(C10H8N2)], (II), is the location of the Zn(II) atoms on a twofold rotation axis. Further, each Zn(II) atom is chelated by two symmetry-equivalent and symmetrically coordinating di-thio-carbamate ligands and a 2,2'-bi-pyridine ligand. The resulting N2S4 coordination geometry is based on a highly distorted octa-hedron in each case. In the mol-ecular packing of (I), supra-molecular ladders mediated by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding are found whereby the uprights are defined by {⋯HO(water)⋯HO(hy-droxy)⋯} n chains parallel to the a axis and with the rungs defined by 'Zn[S2CN(CH2CH2)2]2'. The water mol-ecules connect the ladders into a supra-molecular layer parallel to the ab plane via water-O-H⋯S and pyridyl-C-H⋯O(water) inter-actions, with the connections between layers being of the type pyridyl-C-H⋯S. In (II), supra-molecular layers parallel to the ab plane are sustained by hy-droxy-O-H⋯S hydrogen bonds with connections between layers being of the type pyridyl-C-H⋯S.

The resulting C(2)ClS(2) donor set defines a coordination geometry inter-mediate between square-pyramidal and trigonal-bipyramidal with a slight tendency towards the latter. The formation of close intra-molecular C-H⋯Cl and C-H⋯S contacts precludes the Cl and S atoms from forming significant inter-molecular contacts. The presence of C-H⋯π contacts leads to the formation of supra-molecular arrays that stack along the b axis.

Project description:The title structures, [M(C6H12NOS2)2(C10H8N2)]·0.5C10H8N2, for M = Zn, (I), and Cd, (II), feature terminally bound 4,4'-bipyridyl ligands and non-coordinating 4,4'-bi-pyridyl mol-ecules, with the latter disposed about a centre of inversion. The coordination geometry about the metal atom is defined by two non-symmetrically chelating di-thio-carbamate ligands and a pyridyl N atom. The NS4 donor sets are distorted but, approximate to trigonal bipyramidal in each case. In the crystal, hy-droxy-O-H⋯O(hy-droxy) and hy-droxy-O-H⋯N(pyrid-yl) hydrogen bonds between the zinc-containing mol-ecules lead to a supra-molecular layer parallel to (100). The three-dimensional architecture arises as the layers are linked via methine-C-H⋯S, pyridyl-C-H⋯O(hy-droxy) and π-π [inter-centroid distance between coordinated pyridyl rings = 3.6246 (18) Å] inter-actions. Channels along the c-axis direction are occupied by the non-coordinating 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecules, which are held in place by C-H⋯π(chelate ring) contacts.
