Melaminium hydrogen malonate.

ABSTRACT: The melaminium (2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-triazin-1-ium) cation in the title compound, C(3)H(7)N(6) (+)·C(3)H(3)O(4) (-), is essentially planar, with a r.m.s. deviation of the non-H atoms of 0.0085 Å. Extensive hydrogen bonding of the types N-H⋯N and N-H⋯O between cations and cations and between cations and hydrogen malonate (2-carb-oxy-ethano-ate) anions leads to the formation of supra-molecular layers parallel to (1-2-1). An intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond in the single deprotonated malonate anion also occurs.

Project description:In the title compound, C(3)H(7)N(6) (+)·C(7)H(5)O(5) (-)·2H(2)O, the melaminium and benzoate ions are approximately planar (r.m.s. deviation of the non-hydrogen atoms is 0.093 Å) and there is a strong C(2) (2)(8) hydrogen-bonding embrace between them. The centre of symmetry generates a second acid-base pair which is bound to the first by a C(2) (2)(8) (N-H⋯N) embrace common between melamine mol-ecules in similar compounds. Further extensive hydrogen bonding assembles the components into a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title salt, C(3)H(7)N(6) (+)·NO(3) (-)·C(3)H(6)N(6)·H(2)O, the asymmetric unit consists of two neutral melamine (1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triamine) mol-ecules, two melaminium cations, two nitrate anions and two solvent water mol-ecules. One of the nitrate anions is disordered over two sets of positions, with a refined occupancy ratio of 0.909?(3):0.091?(3). The cations and neutral mol-ecules are approximately planar, with maximum deviations of 0.018?(2), 0.024?(2), 0.019?(2) and 0.007?(2)?Å for each, respectively. In the crystal structure, melaminium cations and netural melamine mol-ecules self-assemble via N-H?N hydrogen bonds to form a supra-molecular hexa-gonal-shaped motif. In addition, the nitrate anions and water mol-ecules are connected by N-H?O hydrogen bonds to form a three-dimensional network.

Supra-molecular layers parallel to (12-1) are formed through extensive inter-molecular hydrogen bonding of the types O-H⋯O, N-H⋯N and N-H⋯O between the components.
