Complete genome sequence of Marinomonas bacteriophage P12026.

ABSTRACT: Members of the genus Marinomonas in the Gammaproteobacteria are broadly distributed in marine environments where they could be infected by bacteriophages. Here we report the genome sequence of bacteriophage P12026 that can lytically infect bacterial strain IMCC12026, a member of the genus Marinomonas. To our knowledge, this is the first genome sequence of a lytic bacteriophage infecting the genus Marinomonas.

Project description:Marinomonas posidonica IVIA-Po-181(T) Lucas-Elío et al. 2011 belongs to the family Oceanospirillaceae within the phylum Proteobacteria. Different species of the genus Marinomonas can be readily isolated from the seagrass Posidonia oceanica. M. posidonica is among the most abundant species of the genus detected in the cultured microbiota of P. oceanica, suggesting a close relationship with this plant, which has a great ecological value in the Mediterranean Sea, covering an estimated surface of 38,000 Km(2). Here we describe the genomic features of M. posidonica. The 3,899,940 bp long genome harbors 3,544 protein-coding genes and 107 RNA genes and is a part of the GenomicEncyclopedia ofBacteriaandArchaea project.

Complete Genome Sequence of Enterococcus Bacteriophage EFLK1.

Project description:We previously isolated EFDG1, a lytic phage against enterococci for therapeutic use. Nevertheless, EFDG1-resistant bacterial strains (EFDG1(r)) have evolved. EFLK1, a new highly effective phage against EFDG1(r) strains, was isolated in this study. The genome of EFLK1 was fully sequenced, analyzed, and deposited in GenBank.

Complete genome sequence of Salmonella bacteriophage SPN3US.

Project description:Salmonella bacteriophage SPN3US was isolated from a chicken fecal sample. It is a virulent phage belonging to the Myoviridae family and showing effective inhibition of Salmonella enterica and a few Escherichia coli O157:H7 strains. Here we announce the completely sequenced first genome of a Salmonella phage using flagella as receptors. It is the largest genome among Salmonella phages sequenced to date, and major findings from its annotation are described.

Project description:We characterized the complete genome sequence of Siphoviridae bacteriophage Erla, an obligatory lytic subcluster EA1 bacteriophage infecting Microbacterium foliorum NRRL B-24224, with a capsid width of 65 nm and a tail length of 112 nm. The 41.5-kb genome, encompassing 62 predicted protein-coding genes, is highly similar (99.52% identity) to that of bacteriophage Calix.

Complete genome sequence of Salmonella bacteriophage SS3e.

Project description:A Salmonella lytic bacteriophage, SS3e, was isolated, and its genome was sequenced completely. This phage is able to lyse not only various Salmonella serovars but also Escherichia coli, Shigella sonnei, Enterobacter cloacae, and Serratia marcescens, indicating a broad host specificity. Genomic sequence analysis of SS3e revealed a linear double-stranded DNA sequence of 40,793 bp harboring 58 open reading frames, which is highly similar to Salmonella phages SETP13 and MB78.

Complete genome sequence of enterococcal bacteriophage SAP6.

Project description:Enterococcus faecalis is an important bacterium for use as a probiotic and is an opportunistic pathogen in human beings. The antibiotic resistance acquired by E. faecalis is restricted to antibiotics used in the clinical setting. While screening for alternative antibiotics for use against multidrug-resistant E. faecalis, we isolated a virulent enterococcal bacteriophage, SAP6, belonging to the family Siphoviridae. To our knowledge, this study is the first to report the complete genome sequence of bacteriophage SAP6, which might be used as a therapeutic agent in combination with alternative antibiotics for multidrug-resistant E. faecalis.

Project description:Croceibacter atlanticus HTCC2559(T), a marine bacterium isolated from the Sargasso Sea, is a phylogenetically unique member of the family Flavobacteriaceae. Strain HTCC2559(T) possesses genes related to interaction with primary producers, which makes studies on bacteriophages infecting the strain interesting. Here we report the genome sequence of bacteriophage P2559S, which was isolated off the coast of the Republic of Korea and lytically infects HTCC2559(T). Many genes predicted in the P2559S genome had their homologs in Bacteroides phages.

Project description:Marinomonas mediterranea MMB-1(T) Solano & Sanchez-Amat 1999 belongs to the family Oceanospirillaceae within the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is of interest because it is the only species described in the genus Marinomonas to date that can synthesize melanin pigments, which is mediated by the activity of a tyrosinase. M. mediterranea expresses other oxidases of biotechnological interest, such as a multicopper oxidase with laccase activity and a novel L-lysine-epsilon-oxidase. The 4,684,316 bp long genome harbors 4,228 protein-coding genes and 98 RNA genes and is a part of the Genomic Encyclopedia of Bacteria and Archaea project.
