Complete genome sequence of an H5N2 avian influenza virus isolated from a parrot in southern China.

ABSTRACT: We report the complete genome sequence of an H5N2 avian influenza virus (AIV) that was first isolated from a parrot in Guangdong in southern China in 2004. Genomic sequence and phylogenetic analyses showed that it was highly homologous with the North American H5N2 viruses and all eight genes of this virus belonged to the North American gene lineage. These data will help in the investigation of the epidemiology and host range of AIVs in southern China.

Project description:We report here the complete genomic sequence of an H7N3 avian influenza virus (AIV) isolate, which was obtained from duck in 1996. This is the first report of this subtype of AIV being isolated from duck in Guangdong of Southern China. Genomic sequence and phylogenetic analyses showed that it was highly homologous with the wild bird virus A/ruddy turnstone/Delaware Bay/135/1996 (H7N3) and that all eight genes of this virus belonged to the North America gene pool. The availability of genome sequences is helpful to further investigations of epidemiology and evolution of AIV between waterfowl and wild birds.

Complete genomic sequence of an H5N1 influenza virus from a parrot in southern China.

Project description:An H5N1 avian influenza virus (AIV) designated A/Parrot/Guangdong/C99/2005 (H5N1) was first isolated from a sick parrot in Guangdong in southern China in 2005. The complete genome of this strain was analyzed. Genome sequence analysis showed that all 8 gene segments of the virus nucleotide had 99.0% homology to A/chicken/Henan/12/2004 (H5N1). Phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that all 8 gene segments of the virus were derived from the Eurasian lineage. The availability of genome sequences is useful to investigate the host range and genetic evolution of the H5N1 avian influenza virus in Southern China.

Complete Genome Sequence of Avian Influenza Virus A/chicken/Jiangsu/1001/2013(H5N2), Demonstrating Continuous Reassortance of H5N2 in China.

Project description:Avian influenza virus A/chicken/Jiangsu/1001/2013(H5N2) was identified from a healthy chicken in an eastern China poultry market. Whole-genome analysis demonstrated that the H5N2 virus originated from a reassortance between a previous A/chicken/Hebei/1102/2010(H5N2) virus and an endemic H5N1 virus. The results indicated that continuing reassortance of H5N2 has been occurring in domestic poultry of China.

Complete genome sequence of an H10N8 avian influenza virus isolated from a live bird market in Southern China.

Project description:An H10N8 avian influenza virus (AIV), designated A/Duck/Guangdong/E1/2012 (H10N8), was isolated from a duck in January 2012. This is first report that this subtype of AIV was isolated from a live bird market (LBM) in Guangdong Province in southern China. Furthermore, the complete genome of this strain was analyzed. The availability of genome sequences is helpful to further investigations of epidemiology and molecular characteristics of AIV in southern China.

Project description:We report here the complete genomic sequence of an avian-origin H3N2 canine influenza A virus containing multiple mutations in farmed dogs in southern China. Phylogenetic analyses of the sequences of all eight viral RNA segments demonstrated that these are wholly avian influenza viruses of the Asia lineage. To our knowledge, this is the first report of interspecies transmission of an avian H3N2 influenza virus to domestic farm dogs under natural conditions in Southern China. The amino acid information provided herein suggests that continued study is required to determine if this virus could be established in the farm dog population and pose potential threats to public health.

Genome sequence of a natural reassortant H5N2 avian influenza virus from domestic mallard ducks in eastern China.

Project description:Here, we report the genomic sequence of a Chinese reassortant H5N2 avian influenza virus which possessed the polybasic motif PLREKRRK-R/GL at the hemagglutinin cleavage site. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all eight genes were of the Eurasian lineage, five of which were highly homologous to the endemic clade 2.3.4 H5N1 viruses and their H5N5 reassortant descendants. These data suggested that novel multisubtypic NA reassortants bearing the H5N1 backbone could be generated through genetic reassortment in H5N1 circulating regions, which will help in understanding the evolution and segment reassortment mechanism of H5 subtype avian influenza viruses.
