3-[1-(3-Hy-droxy-benz-yl)-1H-benzimid-azol-2-yl]phenol dimethyl sulfoxide monosolvate.

ABSTRACT: Crystals of the title compound were obtained as a 1:1 dimethyl sulfoxide solvate, C(20)H(16)N(2)O(2)·C(2)H(6)O. The mol-ecular conformation of the organic mol-ecule is similar to that in the previously reported unsolvated structure [Eltayeb et al. (2009 ?). Acta Cryst. E65, o1374-o1375]. Thus, the dihedral angles formed by the benzimidazole moiety with the two benzene rings are 57.54?(4) and 76.22?(5)°, and the dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 89.23?(5)°. In the crystal, a three-dimensional network features O-H?O, O-H?N and O-H?S hydrogen bonds, as well as C-H?O and C-H?? inter-actions.

Project description:In the title mol-ecule, C(15)H(14)N(2)O(2), the substituted benzene ring forms a dihedral angle of 4.15?(1)° with the benzimidazole ring system. An intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond generates an S(6) ring motif. In the solid state, mol-ecules are linked into chains along the [001] via inter-molecular bifurcated N-H?(O,O) hydrogen bonds, which generate R(1) (2)(5) ring motifs. The crystal packing is also consolidated by C-H?? inter-actions, and ?-? stacking inter-actions between the imidazole and substituted benzene rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.5746?(13)?Å]. The methyl group attached to the benzimidazole ring system is disordered over two positions with occupancies of 0.587?(6) and 0.413?(6), suggesting 180° rotational disorder for the benzimidazole group.

The mol-ecule is located on a crystallographic centre of inversion. As a result, the methyl group bonded to the methyl-ene group is disordered over two equally occupied positions, sharing the same site as the H atom of the chiral C atom. As a further consequence of the crystallographic centrosymmetry, the 1,2-diamino-propane unit adopts an anti-periplanar conformation and the two benzene rings are coplanar. The central chain is in an all-trans arrangement. An intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond makes an S(6) ring motif. The cation, whose two aromatic rings are twisted along the -CH(2)-NH- bond by 76.8 (1)°, is a hydrogen-bond donor to the perchlorate ion through the N atom of this link.

Project description:In the title compound, C13H11ClO2, the dihedral angle between the mean planes of the 2-chloro-phenyl and phenol rings is 87.4?(9)°. The methyl hy-droxy group lies nearly perpendicular to the plane of its attached benzene ring [O-C-C-C torsion angle = 84.3?(3)°]. The two hy-droxy groups lie on the same side of the mol-ecule and are in a slightly twisted gauche conformation [O-C-C-O torsion angle = 77.1?(8)°] to each other. In the crystal, O-H?O hydrogen bonds between nearby methyl-hydroxy groups form dimers in alternating pairs aligned diagonally along the b axis. A view along the c axis reveals a hexa-meric aggregate mediated by a ring of six O-H?O hydrogen bonds generating an R 6 (6)(12) motif loop.
