ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(8)H(6)N(4), contains two almost planar independent mol-ecules (r.m.s. deviations = 0.026 and 0.030?Å). The crystal studied was a non-merohedral twin with the components in a 0.513?(2):0.487?(2) ratio.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(8)H(8)N(2)O(4), consists of one complete mol-ecule and a second mol-ecule generated by the application of twofold axis. The mean planes of the two carboxyl groups attached to the pyrazine ring at neighboring positions are twisted by 10.8?(1) and 87.9?(1)° in the complete molecule and 43.0?(1)° in the symmetry-generated molecule. The crystal packing features O-H?N hydrogen bonds, which link the mol-ecules into layers along [101].

Project description:In dimethyl 5,6-bis-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazine-2,3-di-carboxyl-ate, C18H14N4O4, (I), and diethyl 5,6-bis-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazine-2,3-di-carboxyl-ate, C20H18N4O4, (II), the dimethyl and diethyl esters of 5,6-bis-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazine-2,3-di-carb-oxy-lic acid, the orientation of the two pyridine rings differ. In (I), pyridine ring B is inclined to pyrazine ring A by 44.8 (2)° and the pyridine and pyrazine N atoms are trans to one another, while pyridine ring C is inclined to the pyrazine ring by 50.3 (2)°, with the pyridine and pyrazine N atoms cis to one another. In compound (II), the diethyl ester, which possesses twofold rotation symmetry, the pyridine ring is inclined to the pyrazine ring by 40.7 (1)°, with the pyridine and pyrazine N atoms trans to one another. In the crystal of (I), mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming chains along [001]. The chains are linked by C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional structure. In the crystal of (II), mol-ecules are linked via C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional framework. There are C-H⋯π inter-actions present within the framework.

Project description:The title compound, C(6)H(8)N(2)O(2), was prepared from 2,5-dimethyl-pyrazine, acetic acid, and hydrogen peroxide. The 2,5-dimethyl-pyrazine 1,4-dioxide mol-ecule is located on an inversion center. π-π inter-actions between neighboring 2,5-dimethyl-pyrazine 1,4-dioxide mol-ecules are observed with an inter-planar distance of 3.191 Å. Each 2,5-dimethyl-pyrazine 1,4-dioxide mol-ecule is linked to four neighboring N-oxide mol-ecules through C-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, forming two-dimensional layers.

The cyano groups are on different sides of the pyridine plane, with C- and N-atom deviations of 0.072?(3)/0.124?(4) and -0.228?(4)/-0.409?(5)?Å from the pyridine plane. In the crystal, N-H?N and C-H?N hydrogen bonds connect the mol-ecules into zigzag chains running along the c axis.
