Sulfur, a key contributor to biological reactivity, is not amendable to investigations by biological NMR spectroscopy. To utilize selenium as a surrogate, we have developed a generally applicable (77)Se isotopic enrichment method for heterologous proteins expressed in Escherichia coli.
