Mini chromosome maintenance (MCM) proteins 2-7, a subgroup of the large AAA ATPase family are critically required for eukaryotic DNA replication. These proteins are most likely responsible for unwinding DNA at the replication forks. Besides this function, some MCMs are also involved in other chromosome transactions such as transcription, chromatin remodeling and genome stability.
