Isolation of a novel strain of Mycobacterium iranicum from a woman in the United States.


ABSTRACT: A novel strain of Mycobacterium iranicum, a recently described nontuberculous Mycobacterium species, was isolated from the sputum of a woman. The source of infection was not determined; however, fomite transmission of inhaled aerosolized secretions from her husband's sleep apnea equipment was historically possible.
