Giant lipoma of the thigh: A case report.

ABSTRACT: A lipoma is a benign tumor which can occur in any part of the body; it is very frequent and can reach a considerable size. Differentiation between lipoma and liposarcoma of low grade malignancy represents an important diagnostic problem, and valuable help in the differential diagnosis is provided by ultrasonography (US), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), biopsy and/or modern immunohistochemistry. The authors report the case of a 50-year-old man who was referred to their department due to the presence of a large mass growing on the upper thigh of the right leg; over 7 years it had steadily increased in size causing pain and functional impotence. US of the soft tissues and CT scanning were performed. Densitometric values of the mass suggested adipose tissue, which was subsequently confirmed by biopsy.

Giant Interpectoral Lipoma Causing Venous Thoracic Outlet Syndrome: A Rare Case Presentation.

Project description:Lipomas are the most prevalent type of benign soft tissue tumors, primarily composed of adipocytes, and typically remain asymptomatic unless they reach a significant size. Although giant lipomas are infrequent, their occurrence on the chest wall, particularly in the interpectoral region, is exceedingly rare. We present a unique case of a 48-year-old man with a massive interpectoral lipoma measuring 19.4 × 12.9 × 9.4 cm, which resulted in venous thoracic outlet syndrome by compressing the subclavian vein. This case highlights the clinical challenges in diagnosing deep-seated chest wall lipomas and underscores the necessity of considering thoracic outlet syndrome as a potential complication, even in the absence of direct neural or arterial compression. The presentation of thoracic outlet syndrome can vary, and a comprehensive evaluation is imperative for accurate diagnosis and management.

Case report: Recurrent parosteal lipoma at Dr. Moewardi hospital

Project description:Background Parosteal lipoma is a rare and benign neoplasm originating from mature adipose tissue near the periosteum. Clinically, it is difficult to diagnose due to its similarity to the clinical manifestation of sarcoma, so imaging, histopathology, and immunohistochemistry examinations are necessary. Case presentation A 54-year-old woman presented with lump on the right thigh that had gone through surgery eight years prior, with a diameter of 20 cm, with a partly hard and partly soft consistency, the patient was diagnosed with suspected recurrent liposarcoma. We performed wide excision and histopathological results showed a proliferation of bone cells and cartilage cells that were lobulated, surrounded by a proliferation of fat cells with no pleomorphism or immature cells. Discussion Parosteal lipomas are neoplasms derived from adult adipose tissue, usually connected to the periosteum, and rare and benign. Two theories of pathogenesis of parosteal lipomas. (1) tumors arise from the differentiation of stem cells derived from adipose tissue, (2) the tumor is derived from secondary metaplasia of fibroblasts due to recurrent trauma, metabolic changes, or ischemia. Based on the theory, it is likely that in this case is due to the presence of differentiation of adiposa tissue due to the non-acquisition of a history of trauma. Conclusion Parosteal lipoma is a rare case of benign neoplasm, which is difficult to diagnose clinically due to its similar sarcoma, thus requiring imaging and histopathological examination. The treatment of choice is wide excision by taking the entire tumor to prevent a recurrence. Highlights • 45 year old woman with recurrent parosteal lipoma.• The case of parosteal lipoma is a benign tumor.• A neoplasm originating from mature adipose tissue, mostly located in the bone cortex below the periosteum.• The incidence is 0.3% of all types of lipomas and 0.1% of primary bone neoplasms.

Case report: Laparoscopic approach in the treatment of presacral lipoma.

Project description:Retrorectal lipoma, as well as other retrorectal tumours, is a relatively rare disorder. Retrorectal tumours accounted for 1 in 40,000 hospital admissions. We present a case of retrorectal lipoma, 15 cm × 10 cm × 8 cm in size, treated by the laparoscopic approach. The preoperative magnetic resonance imaging visualised a mass, 12 cm × 6.7 cm × 8.6 cm in diameter, in the retrorectal space, spreading toward the left obturator foramen. Surgery was indicated due to exclude malignant process certainly, because it is difficult to differentiate lipoma from low-grade liposarcoma on non invasive imaging. Laparoscopic extirpation of the tumour was performed. The overall operative time was 80 min. The diagnosis of lipoma was established on histological examination. The patient was discharged from hospital on the 2nd day after the surgery. We have found this minimally invasive operation to be an effective and well-tolerated treatment option, determined by the experience of the surgeon.

Laparoscopic segmental resection of the rectum for upper rectal intussusception caused by a giant rectal lipoma: A case report.

Project description:RATIONALE:Colonic lipomas are rare benign tumours, usually without any symptoms, and most occur in the caecum and ascending colon. We describe a patient with upper rectal intussusception caused by a giant rectal lipoma; no similar report of this type of case has been published. PATIENT CONCERNS:We report the case of a patient who suffered from repeated bloody stools. A wide pedicle polyp (size, 6.5?×?4.5?×?3.5?cm) was detected at the 15th centimetre of the anal canal via an electronic colonoscope. At the initial part of the rectum, intussusception caused by a 6.5-cm fat-density mass was observed via abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography. DIAGNOSIS:Upper rectal intussusception caused by a giant rectal lipoma. INTERVENTIONS:Due to the large size of the polyp, an endoscopic polypectomy could not be performed. We performed laparoscopic segmental resection of the rectum (with preservation of the left colic artery [LCA]). OUTCOMES:The patient was discharged on the 7th postoperative day without any complications, was monitored on a regular basis at our outpatient department and was free of symptoms at a 3-month follow-up visit. LESSONS:Laparoscopic segmental resection of the rectum with LCA preservation is safe and feasible for the treatment of upper rectal intussusception caused by a giant rectal lipoma.

Project description:Panniculitis is a group of diseases whose hallmark is inflammation of the subcutaneous adipose tissue that may be challenging both for the clinician and the dermatopathologist. It can occur in any fatty tissue (cutaneous or visceral) and is often diagnosed on the basis of a deep skin biopsy. Though mesenteric panniculitis is a common entity, and often associated with intra-abdominal inflammatory conditions, cutaneous panniculitis is a rare entity and can be mistaken for other skin and subcuteneous lesions. We present a patient with traumatic panniculitis.
