Dihydro-nium tetra-chromate(VI), (H(3)O)(2)Cr(4)O(13).

ABSTRACT: The crystal structure of (H(3)O)(2)Cr(4)O(13) is isotypic with K(2)Cr(4)O(13). The finite tetra-chromate anion in the title structure consists of four vertex-sharing CrO(4) tetra-hedra and exhibits a typical zigzag arrangement. The crystal packing is stabilized by hydrogen bonds between these anions and hydro-nium cations. The two different hydro-nium cations are surrounded by nine O atoms of tetra-chromate anions, with O?O distances ranging between 2.866?(8) and 3.282?(7)?Å.

The [WS(4)](2-)anions, which lie on twofold axes, are located in the cavities created between the cation chains.

Lead chromate detected as a source of atmospheric Pb and Cr (VI) pollution.

Project description:Spherical black carbon aggregates were frequently observed in dust dry deposition in Daejeon, Korea. They were tens of micrometers in diameter and presented a mixture of black carbon and several mineral phases. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and selected area diffraction pattern (SADP) analyses confirmed that the aggregates were compact and included significant amounts of lead chromate (PbCrO4). The compositions and morphologies of the nanosized lead chromate particles suggest that they probably originated from traffic paint used in roads and were combined as discrete minerals with black carbon. Based on Pb isotope analysis and air-mass backward trajectories, the dust in Daejeon received a considerable input of anthropogenic pollutants from heavily industrialized Chinese cities, which implies that long-range transported aerosols containing PbCrO4 were a possible source of the lead and hexavalent chromium levels in East Asia. Lead chromate should be considered to be a source of global atmospheric Pb and Cr(VI) pollution, especially given its toxicity.

Project description:The crystal structure of title compound, (C14H36N4)[CrO3Cl]2Cl2, has been determined by synchrotron radiation X-ray crystallography at 220?K. The macrocyclic cation lies across a crystallographic inversion center and hence the asymmetric unit contains one half of the organic cation, one chloro-chromate anion and one chloride anion. Both the Cl- anion and chloro-chromate Cl atom are involved in hydrogen bonding. In the crystal, hydrogen bonds involving the 1,4,8,11-tetra-methyl-1,4,8,11-tetra-azonia-cyclo-tetra-decane (TMC) N-H groups and C-H groups as donor groups and three O atoms of the chloro-chromate and the chloride anion as acceptor groups link the components, giving rise to a three-dimensional network.

One of the two crystallographiclly independent morpholinium cations is half-occupied. Inter-molecular N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the cations, polyoxoanions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules.

Propane-1,2-di-ammonium chromate(VI).

Project description:In the title mol-ecular salt, (C3H12N2)[CrO4], each chromate anion accepts six N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds from nearby propane-1,2-di-ammonium cations. Three of the four O atoms of the chromate anion accept these bonds; the remaining Cr-O bond length is notably shorter than the others. In the crystal, the anions and cations stack in layers lying parallel to (100): the hydrogen-bonding pattern leads to a three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the title compound, C(24)H(20)P(+)·C(2)HO(4) (-), two symmetry-independent ion pairs are present. The cations aggregate into puckered sheets via zigzag infinite chains of sixfold phenyl embraces and parallel fourfold phenyl embraces, while the anions form hydrogen-bonded chains between the sheets of cations. In the two independent oxalate anions, the angles between the normals to the two least-squares carboxyl-ate COO planes are unusually large, viz. 72.5?(1) and 82.1?(1)°.

Project description:The title salt, [P(NHCH(2)C(6)H(5))(4)](+)·Cl(-), crystallizes with the P atom and Cl(-) anion lying on a twofold rotation axis. The P atom has a slightly distorted tetra-hedral geometry with two classes of N-P-N angles [101.15 (10) and 100.55 (11)° and 113.07 (9) and 114.83 (8)°] and the environments of sp(2)-hybridized N atoms are essentially planar (sum of angles = 359.9 and 360.1°). In the crystal, the phospho-nium ion inter-acts with each neighboring chloride ion via two approximately equal N-H⋯Cl inter-actions, forming parallel chains along the c axis.

Juvenile Fundulus heteroclitus exposed to Cr(VI)

Project description:Cr(VI) is a common bioavailable toxic metal that can cause oxidative stress, DNA adducts, and perturb normal gene expression. Changes in gene expression are useful biomarkers of toxicant exposure that provide information about the health of an organism, its ability to adapt to its environment, and indicate potential toxicant-specific effects. Therefore, we developed a toxicology array to the estuarine sentinel species Fundulus heteroclitus, or mummichog. Juvenile mummichog were exposed to potassium dichromate for thirty days at concentrations from 0 to 24 mg/L of Cr(VI), and growth was measured to determine the NOEC (1.5 mg/L or 0.0288 mM) and LOEC (3 mg/L or 0.0577 mM). Body burdens from Cr(VI) exposed fish demonstrated a dose dependent increase and were inversely correlated to body weight. Cr(VI)-exposed juvenile mummichog differentially expressed greater than 20 genes in a dose-dependent manner, including hepatic glucose transporter 2, liver fatty acid binding protein, ATPase synthase 8, type II keratin, TBT binding protein, and complement component C3-2. Many of these genes are involved in energy metabolism or growth, which is consistent with the reduced growth caused by Cr(VI). Keywords: dose response
