ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C9H12N2O, the mean plane through the amide group and the benzene ring form a dihedral angle of 33.93?(7)°. An intra-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bond is present. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H?N and N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming double-stranded chains parallel to the b axis.

Project description:The conformation of the N-H bond in the structure of the title compound, C(15)H(15)NO, is anti to the ortho and meta-methyl substituents in the aniline benzene ring, in contrast to the syn conformation observed with respect to the ortho and meta-chloro substituents in N-(2,3-dichloro-phen-yl)benzamide. Furthermore, the conformations of N-H and C=O bonds in the amide group are anti to each other, similar to those observed in other benzanilides. The dihedral angle between the benzoyl and aniline rings is 84.1 (2)°. The amide group is twisted by 23.0 (3)° out of the plane of the benzoyl ring. The structure exhibits positional disorder over the aniline ring, with site occupancies of 0.80 (1) and 0.20 (1) for the major and minor components, respectively. In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected through N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into chains running along the b axis. An intra-molecular C-H⋯O close contact occurs.

Project description:The conformation of the NH bond in the structure of the title compound (N34DMPBA), C(15)H(15)NO, is anti to the meta-methyl substituent in the aniline ring, similar to that observed with respect to the meta-chloro substituent in N-(3,4-dichloro-phen-yl)benzamide (N34DCPBA), but in contrast to the syn conformation observed with respect to the meta-methyl substituent in N-(3,4-dimethyl-phen-yl)acetamide. The bond parameters in N34DMPBA are similar to those in N34DCPBA and other benzanilides. The mol-ecules in N34DMPBA are packed into a column-like structure in the direction of the a axis through N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, C(15)H(15)NO, crystallizes with two mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The H-N-C=O units are in a trans conformation, similar to that observed in N-(3,4-dimethyl-phen-yl)benzamide, N-(2,6-dichloro-phen-yl)benz-amide and other benzanilides. The central -NHCO- bridging unit is tilted at angles of 17.1 (3) and 16.4 (3)° to the benzoyl ring in the two mol-ecules. The two rings (benzoyl and aniline) are almost orthogonal with respect to each other, making dihedral angles of 86.3 (1) and 86.0 (1)° in the two mol-ecules. N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link mol-ecules into infinite chains running along the c axis.

The amide group is twisted by 28.1?(3) and 76.3?(2)° out of the planes of the 4-methyl-phenyl and 2,4-dimethyl-phenyl rings, respectively.
