Despite the growing evidence of the role of oxidative stress in disease, its molecular mechanism of action remains poorly understood. The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae provides a valuable model system in which to elucidate the effects of oxidative stress on mitochondria in higher eukaryotes.
