3-Acetyl-2-methyl-4-(pyridin-3-yl)-1,4-di-hydro-indeno-[1,2-b]pyridin-5-one.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C20H16N2O2, the condensed tricyclic fragment is near to planar, with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.0531?Å. The 1,4-di-hydro-pyridine (1,4-DHP) ring adopts a slightly puckered boat-like conformation. The N and opposite C atoms deviate from the least-squares plane of the four other ring atoms by 0.039?(3) and 0.141?(3)?Å, respectively. The C=O group located at the tricyclic fragment is fixed in an s-trans orientation, while the second C=O group adopts an s-cis orientation with respect to the double bonds of the 1,4-DHP ring. The pyridine ring has a pseudo-axial orientation with respect to the 1,4-DHP ring. The dihedral angle between the tricyclic system and the pyridine ring is 77.3?(3)°. In the crystal, the pyridine N atom accepts a hydrogen bond from the N-H group of the 1,4-DHP ring. The hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into infinite C(8) chains along the b-axis direction.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C19H16N2O5S, contains four independent mol-ecules (A, B, C and D), with two mol-ecules (B and D) displaying disorder in their methyl-sulfanyl groups [occupancy ratios of 0.797 (11):0.203 (11) and 0.85 (2):0.15 (2)]. The nitro groups are twisted slightly out of the planes of the 2-pyrroline rings to which they are bonded with dihedral angles of 10.17 (1), 8.01 (1), 9.44 (1) and 8.87 (1)° in mol-ecules A, B, C and D, respectively. The 2-pyrroline rings are almost orthogonal to the attached tolyl rings, forming dihedral angles of 73.44 (1), 81.21 (1), 88.18 (8) and 73.94 (1)° for mol-ecules A, B, C and D, respectively. A weak intra-molecular O-H⋯O inter-action is observed in mol-ecules B and C. The two hy-droxy groups in each mol-ecule are involved in inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding. In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected via O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a complex three-dimensional network.

A region of disordered electron density, located at the center of four adjacent mol-ecules, was treated with the SQUEEZE routine in PLATON [Spek (2009 ?). Acta Cryst. D65, 148-155]. It is probably the result of traces of the solvent of crystallization and was not taken into account during the structure refinement.

Crystal structure of bis-{(3,5-di-methyl-pyrazol-1-yl)di-hydro-[3-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazol-1-yl]-borato}iron(II).

Project description:The structure determination of [Fe(C13H15BN5)2] was undertaken as part of a project on the modification of the recently published spin-crossover (SCO) complex [Fe{H2B(pz)(pypz)}2] (pz = pyrazole, pypz = pyridyl-pyrazole). To this end, a new ligand was synthesized in which two additional methyl groups are present. Its reaction with iron tri-fluoro-methane-sulfonate led to a pure sample of the title compound, as proven by X-ray powder diffraction. The asymmetric unit consists of one complex mol-ecule in a general position. The FeII atom is coordinated by two tridentate N-binding {H2B(3,5-(CH3)2-pz)(pypz)}- ligands. The Fe-N bond lengths range between 2.1222 (13) and 2.3255 (15) Å, compatible with FeII in the high-spin state, which was also confirmed by magnetic measurements. Other than a very weak C-H⋯N non-classical hydrogen bond linking individual mol-ecules into rows extending parallel to [010], there are no remarkable inter-molecular inter-actions.
