Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis due to Emericella nidulans var. echinulata, successfully cured by voriconazole and micafungin.

ABSTRACT: A 78-year-old male who was undergoing prolonged glucocorticoid treatment experienced cough and expectoration for 2 weeks. Galactomannan antigen analysis and a chest computed tomography (CT) scan suggested a diagnosis of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis. DNA sequencing indicated that Emericella nidulans var. echinulata was the causative agent. A combination of voriconazole and micafungin successfully treated the illness.
