1-Methyl-3-(2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl)-1H-imidazol-3-ium picrate.

ABSTRACT: The title salt, C13H11N2O2 (+)·C6H2N3O7 (-), is the unexpected product of a domino reaction of 3-cyano-methyl-1-methyl-imidazolium chloride with salicylic aldehyde in the presence of picric acid. In the cation, the 1H-imidazole ring is twisted by 63.2 (1)° from the 2H-chromen plane. In the crystal, cations and anions are alternately stacked along the a axis through π-π stacking inter-actions between the almost parallel aromatic rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.458 (2) and 3.678 (2) Å]. The stacks are further linked by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a two-tier layer parallel to (001).

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C17H12O4, consists of two independent mol-ecules. The chromen-2-one ring and the 4-methyl-benzoate side chain are inclined to one another at a dihedral angle of 64.79 (10)° in one mol-ecule and 88.3 (1)° in the other. In the crystal, mol-ecules form R 2 (2)(8) centrosymmetric dimers via C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. These dimers are stacked by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, resulting in R 2 (2)(18) and R 3 (2)(16) ring motifs. π-π stacking inter-actions between two parallel chromen-2-one rings, with centroid-centroid distances of 3.743 (1) and 3.771 (1) Å, are also present.

Project description:In the title molecular salt, C4H7N2 (+)·C6H2N3O7 (-), the phenolic proton of the starting picric acid has been transferred to the imidazole N atom. The nitro groups are twisted away from the benzene ring plane, making dihedral angles of 12.8 (2), 9.2 (4) and 29.3 (2)°. In the crystal, the component ions are linked into chains along [010] via N-H⋯O and bifurcated N-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds. These chains are further linked by weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. The complex three-dimensional network can be topologically simplified into a 4-connected uninodal net with the point symbol {4.8(5)}.
