Draft Genome Sequence of a Benzothiophene-Desulfurizing Bacterium, Gordona terrae Strain C-6.

ABSTRACT: Gordona terrae strain C-6 was isolated from oil-contaminated soil and is capable of desulfurizing benzothiophene (BT). Here we report the draft genome sequence of G. terrae strain C-6, which may help to reveal the genetic basis of the BT biodesulfurization pathway.

Project description:Paraburkholderia terrae strain KU-15 has been investigated for its ability to degrade 2-nitrobenzoate. Here, we report the complete 10,422,345-bp genome of this microorganism, which consists of six circular replicons containing 9,483 protein-coding sequences. The genome carries genes that are potentially responsible for 2-nitrobenzoate and 4-nitirobenzoate degradation.

Draft Genome Sequence and Biosynthetic Potential of the Newly Described Strain Longimicrobium terrae CB-286315T.

Project description:Longimicrobium terrae CB-286315T, the first member of the family Longimicrobiaceae, was isolated at the Sierra de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park, Spain, using a diffusion sandwich system (DSS). We present the draft genome sequence of this strain, which comprised 6,886,230 bp. A total of 12 putative biosynthetic gene clusters were predicted, including ribosomally synthesized and posttranslationally modified peptides (RiPPs), polyketides, and nonribosomal peptides.

Draft genome sequence of the biocontrol bacterium Chromobacterium sp. strain C-61.

Project description:Chromobacterium sp. strain C-61 is a plant-associated bacterium with proven capacities to suppress plant diseases. Here, we report the draft genome sequence and automatic annotation of strain C-61. A comparison of this sequence to the sequenced genome of Chromobacterium violaceum ATCC 12472 indicates the novelty of C-61 and a subset of gene functions that may be related to its biocontrol activities.

Draft Genome Sequence of the Marine Bacterium Alteromonas sp. Strain KS69.

Project description:Alteromonas spp. are Gram-negative, aerobic, marine bacteria. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of Alteromonas sp. strain KS69, isolated from Narragansett Bay deep water samples. Unpublished preliminary data suggest that KS69 reduces expression of the 3-oxo-C12-HSL-dependent, virulence-associated gene lasB of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1, suggesting that it produces a quorum sensing inhibitor.

Draft genome sequence of Paenibacillus strain LK1, a phytohormone producing bacterium.

Project description:A high-quality draft genome sequence of a multi-antibiotic resistant strain, Paenibacillus strain LK1 isolated from the rhizosphere of Auricularia auricular is described. Strain LK1 produced several types of phytohormones, which included Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and Zeatin. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene of strain LK1 showed a close relationship to P. taichungensis and P. pabuli (99% gene sequence similarity). The genome size of strain LK1 was estimated to be 7.16 Mb that consisted of 82 contigs contained in 49 scaffolds. The G + C content of the genome was 45.63% and it encoded 6499 genes, 115 pseudo genes, 8 rRNAs, 33 tRNAs, and 4 ncRNAs, based on the Prokaryotic Genome Annotation Pipeline (PGAP). Further analysis of the genome of strain LK1 identified 16 genes encoding monooxygenase and six genes encoding cytochrome P450, which may be potentially involved in zeatin biosynthesis. The draft whole genome sequence and annotation of strain LK1 has been deposited at DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank under the accession number (PEII00000000).

Genetic analysis of benzothiophene biodesulfurization pathway of Gordonia terrae strain C-6.

Project description:Sulfur can be removed from benzothiophene (BT) by some bacteria without breaking carbon-carbon bonds. However, a clear mechanism for BT desulfurization and its genetic components have not been reported in literatures so far. In this study, we used comparative transcriptomics to study differential expression of genes in Gordonia terrae C-6 cultured with BT or sodium sulfate as the sole source of sulfur. We found that 135 genes were up-regulated with BT relative to sodium sulfate as the sole sulfur source. Many of these genes encode flavin-dependent monooxygenases, alkane sulfonate monooxygenases and desulfinase, which perform similar functions to those involved in the 4S pathway of dibenzothiophene (DBT) biodesulfurization. Three of the genes were found to be located in the same operon, designated bdsABC. Cell extracts of pET28a-bdsABC transfected E. coli Rosetta (DE3) converted BT to a phenolic compound, identified as o-hydroxystyrene. These results advance our understanding of enzymes involved in the BT biodesulfurization pathway.
