Significant immunological obstacles are to be negotiated before xenotransplantation becomes a clinical reality. An initial rejection of transplanted vascularized xenograft is attributed to Galα1,3Galβ1,4GlcNAc-R (Galα1,3-Gal)-dependent and -independent mechanisms.
