Nomenclatural changes in the tribe Empoascini of the subfamily Typhlocybinae (Hemiptera, Cicadellidae).

ABSTRACT: One genus and species are synonymized in the tribe Empoascini of the subfamily Typhlocybinae. Bhatasca Dworakowska, 1995is a junior synonym of Alebrasca Hayashi & Okada, 1994, Bhatasca rectangulata Qin & Zhang, 2011is a junior synonym of Alebrasca actinidiae Hayashi & Okada, 1994. Furthermore, Bhatasca expansa is (necessarily) transferred to the genus Alebrasca.

Tungurahualini, a new tribe of Neotropical leafhoppers, with notes on the subfamily Mileewinae (Hemiptera, Cicadellidae).

Project description:A new cicadellid tribe, Tungurahualini, is recognized to include Tungurahuala Kramer, and a related new genus, Ilyapagen. n., based on six new species. The tribe is included in subfamily Mileewinae, the concept of which is further expanded to include tribes Makilingiini Baker, and Tinteromini Godoy and Webb, taxa previously treated as separate subfamilies. Keys to tribes of Mileewinae (sensu lato) and genera of Tungurahualini are provided. A new species of Tungurahuala, Tungurahuala acuminatasp. n., is also described and keys to species of Tungurahuala and Ilyapa are provided. The new tribe is presently recorded only from cloud forests in the northern Andes Mountains of South America.

Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of <i>Empoascanara dwalata</i> (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Typhlocybinae).

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of the leafhopper species Empoascanara dwalata (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Typhlocybinae) was sequenced and annotated, and the sequence is available in the GenBank with accession number: MT350235. The circular mitogenome with 15,271 bp in length, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and one AT-rich region. The nucleotide composition is as follows: A (41.7%), T (34.7%), G (10.6%), and C (13.0%). 11 PCGs have ATN as the start codon, except for atp8 and nad5 genes have TTG. The conventional termination codons (TAA or TAG) occur in 11 PCGs, while cox2 and nad5 use incomplete codon (T--) as termination codon. Phylogenetic analysis using 13 PCGs showed that E. dwalata was clustered with three other Typhlocybine species, which was consistent with the conventional classification.
