Diethyl [4-(2,2':6',2''-terpyridine-4'-yl)phen-yl]phospho-nate.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C25H24N3O3P, was obtained by catalytic phospho-nation of 4'-(4-bromphen-yl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine. The terpyridine moiety is nearly planar, the dihedral angles between the central and the outer rings being 4.06?(9) and 5.39?(9)°. The N atoms in the two pyridine rings are oriented nearly anti-periplanar to that of the central ring. The benzene ring is rotated out of the plane of the central ring of the terpyridine unit by 34.65?(6)°.

The thia-diazole and nitro-substituted phenyl rings in the mol-ecule are approximately coplanar, the dihedral angle being 5.3?(2)°. The dihedral angle formed by the mean plane through all non-H atoms of both the thia-diazole and the nitro-substituted phenyl ring with the plane of the meth-oxy-substituted phenyl ring is 48.9?(2)°. Project description:The title compound, C(26)H(28)NO(3)P, crystallized with two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The structural features (bond lengths and angles) of the two mol-ecules are almost identical. The inter-planar angle between the anthracene and toluidine rings is similar in the two mol-ecules, with values of 82.92?(5) and 80.70?(5)°. In the crystal, both molecules form inversion dimers linked by pairs of N-H?O hydrogen bonds. Three of the four ethyl groups are disordered over two sets of sites, the major components having occupancies of 0.748?(15), 0.77?(4) and 0.518?(19).
