1-(3,4-Di-meth-oxy-phen-yl)-3-phenyl-prop-2-en-1-one.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C17H16O3, the dihedral angle between the mean planes of the benzene rings is 57.1?(1)°. The mean plane of the ketone group is twisted by 10.0?(5)° from that of the di-meth-oxy-phenyl ring. The two di-meth-oxy-phenyl groups are twisted slighly from the mean plane of the phenyl ring, with C-O-C-C torsion angles of 6.4?(2) and -7.9?(2)° [r.m.s. deviations = 0.15?(3) and 0.18?(3)?Å for the two methoxy C atoms]. In the crystal, weak centroid-centroid ?-? stacking inter-actions, with inter-centroid distances of 3.8939?(11) and 3.9430?(10)?Å are observed.

In the title compound, C17H16O3, the dihedral angle between the mean planes of the benzene rings is 57.1 (1)°. Project description:In the mol-ecules of the title compounds, (2E)-1-(3-bromo-thio-phen-2-yl)-3-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)prop-2-en-1-one, C14H11BrO2S, (I), which crystallizes in the space group P-1 with four independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit (Z' = 8), and (2E)-1-(3-bromo-thio-phen-2-yl)-3-(3,4-di-meth-oxy-phen-yl)prop-2-en-1-one, C15H13BrO3S, (II), which crystallizes with Z' = 8 in the space group I2/a, the non-H atoms are nearly coplanar. The mol-ecules of (I) pack with inversion symmetry stacked diagonally along the a-axis direction. Weak C-H?Br intra-molecular inter-actions in each of the four mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit are observed. In (II), weak C-H?O, bifurcated three-center inter-molecular inter-actions forming dimers along with weak C-H?? and ?-? stacking inter-actions are observed, linking the mol-ecules into sheets along [001]. A weak C-H?Br intra-molecular inter-action is also present. There are no classical hydrogen bonds present in either structure.

Project description:In the mol-ecule of the title compound, C17H14BrFO3, the aromatic rings are tilted with respect to the enone bridge by 13.63 (14) and 4.27 (15)°, and form a dihedral angle 17.91 (17)°. In the crystal, centrosymmetrically related mol-ecules are linked by pairs of C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into dimeric units, forming rings of R22(14) graph-set motif. The dimers are further connected by weak C-H⋯O hydrogen inter-actions, forming layers parallel to (10). Hirshfeld surface analysis shows that van der Waals inter-actions constitute the major contribution to the inter-molecular inter-actions, with H⋯H contacts accounting for 29.7% of the surface.
