A new species of Gastrosaccus Norman, 1868 (Mysida, Mysidae, Gastrosaccinae) from a sandy shore of Indonesia.

ABSTRACT: A new species of the mysid crustacean genus Gastrosaccus Norman, 1868 (Mysida, Mysidae, Gastrosaccinae) is reported from a sandy shore of Lombok Island, Indonesia. These specimens resemble G. sorrentoensis Wooldridge & McLachlan, 1986 and G. yuyu Bamber and Morton, 2012 by the possession of an articulated process on the fifth abdominal somite together with a fringe of spine-like filaments on the posterodorsal margin of the carapace. The Lombok population differs from the known congeners by having comparatively fewer numbers of carpopropod segments on the endopod of the third to eighth thoracic limbs and the conformation in the telson and in the male third pleopod. Hence, G. lombokiensis sp. n. is proposed herein as a third species of "G. sorrentoensis" species group.

Project description:Two new species of Anisomysis Hansen, 1910 (Mysida, Mysidae), Anisomysis (Anisomysis) spinaintus sp. n. and Anisomysis (Anisomysis) phuketensis sp. n., from coral-reef waters in Thailand are described. Anisomysis (Anisomysis) spinaintus, collected in the Chaolao Beach, Chanthaburi Province, is distinguished from the closely allied species Anisomysis (Anisomysis) incisa Tattersall, 1936, and Anisomysis (Anisomysis) hawaiiensis Murano, 1995, by the presence of 6-9 spines on the apical cleft of telson, which are absent in the latter two allied species. The new species can also be distinguished from Anisomysis (Anisomysis) aikawai Ii, 1964, by the presence of a deep telson cleft and a large number of spines on the lateral margin of telson. Anisomysis (Anisomysis) phuketensis sp. n., collected in Ko Lon, Phuket, is distinguished from the allied species Anisomysis (Anisomysis) robustispina Panampunnayil, 1984, by having a short telson and a pair of long spines on the apical part of the telson. Keys to the subgenera and species of Anisomysis, including the two new species, are presented.

Three new species of Heteromysis (Mysida, Mysidae, Heteromysini) from the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, with first documentation of a mysid-cephalopod association.

Project description:Faunistic studies in sublittoral and littoral marine habitats on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, have yielded three new species belonging to the genus Heteromysis, subgenus Heteromysis: H. cancellisp. n. associated with the diogenid hermit crab Cancellus macrothrix Stebbing, 1924, and H. fosterisp. n. extracted from 'empty' urchin and gastropod shells. The first documented mysid-cephalopod association is reported for H. octopodissp. n. which was found in dens occupied by Octopus vulgaris Cuvier, 1797, but was also captured from tide pools. The three new species differ from previously known E. Atlantic species, among other characters, by a single spine on the endopods of uropods in combination with large cornea and absence of median sternal processes on thoracic somites. They are also characterized by a white stripe along the dorso-lateral terminal margin of the eyestalks in living specimens. The new species appear quite similar to each other, but are distinguished by different depths of the telson cleft, different distributions of spines on the lateral margins of the telson, different numbers of segments on thoracic endopod 4, and by differently modified setae on the carpus of the third thoracic endopod, as well as on the carpopropodus of the fourth endopod. An updated key to the species of Heteromysis known from the E. Atlantic is given.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the marine mysid Neomysis awatschensis (Mysida, Mysidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome was sequenced from the marine mysid Neomysis awatschensis. The sequenced total genome size was 19,135?bp. The mitochondrial genome of N. awatschensis contained 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two rRNAs, and 22 tRNAs. Of 13 PCGs, all the genes had complete stop codons TAA and TAG, respectively, while the start codon of 13 PCGs was ATG (CO1, Cytb, ND4L, ATP8, ATP6, and ND4 genes), ATT (CO3, ND2, and ND5 genes), and ATA (CO2, ND3, ND6, and ND1 genes), respectively. The ratio of A?+?T and G?+?C nucleotides of 13 PCGs of N. awatschensis mitogenome showed 68.8% and 31.2%, respectively, while those ratio of all the sequences were 70.8% and 29.2%, respectively.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the marine mysid Siriella sp. (Crustacea, Mysida, Mysidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of the marine mysid, Siriella sp. was obtained by conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. Total length of Siriella sp. mitochondrial genome was 14,706?bp, with the base composition of 27% A, 21% C, 22% G, and 30% T with a high AT bias of 57%. The mitogenome of Siriella sp. contained 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and a putative control region. Maximum likelihood method-based phylogenetic reconstruction suggested the evolutionary relationship to other mysids within the order Mysida. Since Mysida contains numerous species across a wide range of water habitats, this information will provide an essential molecular reference to elucidate biogeography, phylogenetic distance, and evolutionary diversity in mysids. This is the first mitogenome information in the genus Siriella.

Two new species of Satsuma A. Adams, 1868 from Taiwan (Pulmonata, Camaenidae).

Project description:Two new sinistral species of the genus Satsuma A. Adams, 1868, Satsumasquamigera sp. n. and Satsumaadiriensis sp. n., from southern Taiwan are described. Satsumasquamigera sp. n. is characterized by a microsculpture comprising coarse, irregularly-spaced ridges and dense, easily-dislodged triangular scales on its sinistral shell, an angulated periphery, and partly-opened umbilicus. This species inhabits secondary forests in lowland hills. Satsumaadiriensis sp. n. is characterized by a thin, fragile smooth shell with microsculpture of coarse, loose ridges, a rounded periphery, completely-opened umbilicus, and elongated penial verge formed by two main pilasters. This new species was collected in a mountainous, mid-elevation, broad-leafed forest.

Project description:A new dajid, Aspidophryxus izuensissp. n., is described from seven females and six males found infesting the dorsal carapaces of specimens of Mysidella hoshinoi Shimomura, 2016 (Mysidae: Mysidellinae) associated with an unidentified species of sea anemone (Haloclavidae) from Izu-Oshima Island, Sagami Sea, central Japan. Aspidophryxus izuensis sp. n. differs from its congeners in having a body length about as long as wide, widest at the anterior part in females; an elongate frontal part of the cephalon, half as long as wide in females; the frontal margin of the cephalon exceeding the anterior margins of lateral lamellae in females; an unsegmented, vermiform, elongate pleon in females; and a uropod composed of a protopod and an inner and outer ramus in males. A key to worldwide species in the genus is provided.

Two new species and a new species record of Aglaia (Meliaceae) from Indonesia.

Project description:Two new species of Aglaia from Indonesia are described, Aglaia monocaula restricted to West Papua, and Aglaia nyaruensis occurring on Borneo (Kalimantan, Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak). A phylogenetic analysis using nuclear ITS and ETS, and plastid rps15-ycf1 sequence data indicates that the two new species of Aglaia are also genetically distinct. Aglaia monocaula belongs to sectionAmoora, while A. nyaruensis is included in section Aglaia. A dichotomous key, drawings and three-locus DNA barcodes are provided as aids for the identification of the two new species of Aglaia. In addition, the geographic range of Aglaia mackiana (section Amoora) is expanded from a single previously known site in Papua New Guinea to West Papua, Indonesia.
