Three new species of European Platypalpus (Diptera, Hybotidae).

ABSTRACT: Platypalpusgraecoides sp. n. (Italy), Platypalpuspyreneensis sp. n. (Andorra), and Platypalpussilvahumidus sp. n. (Czech Republic) are described. All three species are illustrated and keyed. Platypalpushallensis Grootaert & Stark, 1997 is first reported from France and Spain.

Two new European long-legged hoverfly species of the <i>Eumerusbinominatus</i> species subgroup (Diptera, Syrphidae).

Project description:Eumerus Meigen (Diptera, Syrphidae) is one of the most speciose hoverfly genera in Europe, with several species groups recognized within. As part of the tricolor group of species, a subgroup of long-legged representatives stands out. We name it Eumerusbinominatus subgroup and provide descriptions for two new European species which belong to this subgroup: E.grallator sp. nov. from mainland Spain and E.tenuitarsis sp. nov. from Lesvos and Evros, Greece. A key for all five recognized species of the binominatus subgroup is provided.

Growing the Rhinophorid Tree: Three New Species and Their Phylogenetic Implications (Diptera: Rhinophoridae).

Project description:Three new species of Rhinophoridae (Aporeomyia elaphocerasp. nov., Baniassa pennatasp. nov. from the Oriental Region, and Phyto mambillasp. nov. from the Afrotropical Region) are described, illustrated and compared with congeners. Genus-level affiliation of the new species is based on a morphology-based phylogeny, preliminarily accepting a paraphyletic Phyto Robineau-Desvoidy awaiting incorporation of molecular data. Keys to the species of the genus Aporeomyia Pape & Shima as well as to the Afrotropical species of the genus Phyto Robineau-Desvoidy are given.

Project description:A new hoverfly species, Cheilosia barbafacies Vuji? & Radenkovi? sp. n. (Diptera, Syrphidae), is described and distinguished from the closely related species Cheilosia pascuorum Becker, 1894, based on material collected from the mountains of the Balkan Peninsula. Diagnostic characteristics and an identification key for the members of the proxima group of Cheilosia s. str., including the new taxon, are provided.

Three new species of Ametadoria Townsend (Diptera: Tachinidae) from Area de Conservacion Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Project description:We describe three new species in the genus Ametadoria Townsend from Area de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG), Costa Rica. All three were reared from wild-caught Zygaenidae and Lacturidae caterpillars. We provide a concise description of each species using morphology, life history and molecular data, with photographic documentation. The new species are authored and described by Fleming and Wood: Ametadoria karolramosae sp. nov., Ametadoria leticiamartinezae sp. nov., and Ametadoria mauriciogurdiani sp. nov. The following are proposed by Wood as new synonyms of Ametadoria Townsend: Adidyma Townsend syn. nov., and Abolodoria Townsend syn. nov. The following new combinations occur as a result of these new synonymies: Ametadoria abdominalis (Townsend) comb. nov., Ametadoria austrina (Coquillett) comb. nov., Ametadoria humilis (Wulp) comb. nov., Ametadoria misella (Wulp) comb. nov. Ametadoria adversa (Townsend) is proposed as a junior synonym of ?Ametadoria unispinosa Townsend, syn. nov?.
