On the Domene species of China, with descriptions of four new species (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae).

ABSTRACT: Material of the paederine genus Domene Fauvel, 1873 from China is examined. Nine species were identified, four of them described previously, one unnamed (represented exclusively by females), and four are newly described: Domenecultrata sp. n. (Gansu, Hubei, Shaanxi); Domenecuspidata sp. n. (Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan); Domenechenae sp. n. (Guangxi); Domenereducta sp. n. (Sichuan). A lectotype is designated for Domenereitteri Koch, 1939; a neotype is designated for Domenechenpengi Li, 1990. Domenedersuuzalai Gusarov, 1992 is placed in synonymy with Domenechenpengi. Previous records of two Japanese species from China are most likely based on misidentifications and considered erroneous. Thus, the Domene fauna of China is currently composed of twelve described species. A key to the Domene species of China is provided. The distributions of eleven species are mapped.

The diagnostic characters of the new species are illustrated, and a key to species of the group from Zhejiang Province is provided.

Project description:This paper treats Chinese species of the rove beetle genus Plastus Bernhauer, 1903, subgenus Plastus s. str. (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Osoriinae). None of the 87 previously described species of this subgenus are known from China. The following five new species are described and illustrated: Plastus Plastus amplus Wu & Zhou, sp. n. from Xizang, Plastus Plastus rhombicus Wu & Zhou, sp. n. from Guangxi, Plastus Plastus rhombicus Wu & Zhou, sp. n. from Yunnan, Plastus Plastus shanghaiensis Wu & Zhou, sp. n. from Shanghai, and Plastus Plastus tuberculatus Wu & Zhou, sp. n. from Hainan. A key to adults of the five known Chinese species is provided.

Project description:A new endemic genus and seven new species of New Zealand pselaphine staphylinid beetles of the supertribe Faronitae are described as follows: Pseudoexeirarthra Park & Carlton, gen. n. (type species: Sagolaspinifer Broun); Pseudoexeirarthrasungmini Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthrakwangguki Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthrayoungboki Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthraseiwoongi Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthraparkeri Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthrahlavaci Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthranomurai Park & Carlton, sp. n. Three species, Sagolaspinifer Broun, Sagolacolorata Broun, and Sagolapuncticollis Broun, are transferred to the genus Pseudoexeirarthra. Six species are synonymized: Sagoladilucida Broun, Sagolaguinnessi Broun, Sagolalongicollis Broun, Sagolalongula Broun, and Sagolarectipennis Broun under Pseudoexeirarthraspinifer (Broun); Sagolainsueta Broun under Sagolacolorata (Broun). A lectotype is designated for Pseudoexeirarthraspinifer (Broun). A key, habitus photographs, line drawings of diagnostic characters, and distribution maps are provided for each species.

Project description:Two new species of Naddia from China are described: N. chenchangchini sp. nov. (Guangxi) and N. hujiayaoi sp. nov. (Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong). Naddia atripes Bernhauer, 1939 is new to Vietnam and the following Chinese provinces: Jiangxi, Guangxi, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Fujian and Guangdong. Naddia chinensis Bernhauer, 1929 is new to Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guizhou, Henan, Hunan, Shaanxi, Fujian, Chongqing, Guangxi and Hubei. Naddia miniata Fauvel, 1895 is new to Laos. A key to Chinese species of the genus is provided.

Project description:Eight new species of the genus Batrisodes Reitter are described from continental China, seven of which were found in association with ants: B. abdominalissp. n. and B. tianmuensissp. n. with an Ectomomyrmex ant from Zhejiang; B. grossussp. n. with an Odontomachus ant from Guangxi; B. simianshanussp. n. with an Aphaenogaster ant from Chongqing; B. qiuluisp. n. with a Pheidole ant, B. xuhaoisp. n. with a Lasius ant, and B. zhouchaoisp. n. with Lasius and Nylanderia ants from Sichuan. Batrisodes zethussp. n. was collected from a leaf litter sample.

The total number of described Lathrobium species from Sichuan now stands at 39, that of mainland China at 165.
