Gain-of-function mutations in KIT receptor in humans are associated with gastrointestinal stromal tumors, systemic mastocytosis and acute myelogenous leukemia. The intracellular signals that contribute to oncogenic KIT-induced myeloproliferative disease (MPD) are poorly understood.
