Draft Whole-Genome Sequence of Lactobacillus fermentum LfQi6, Derived from the Human Microbiome.

ABSTRACT: We report a 2.21-Mbp draft whole-genome sequence of Lactobacillus fermentum Qi6 (LfQi6). This strain demonstrates activity against pathogenic biofilms, enhances the skin barrier, and upregulates innate immune defenses. The genome sequence information of this strain will help to identify molecules that hold promise for the discovery of novel therapeutics for dermatological disorders.

Project description:Here we report the whole genome sequence of Lactobacillus fermentum HFD1 strain, the producer of antibacterial peptides. The genome consists of one circular chromosome with 2101878 bp in length and GC-content of 51.8%, and includes linear DNA with 5386 bp in length with 100% identity to bacteriophage phiX174. The analysis of the genome has revealed 2049 genes encoding for proteins including 867 proteins without known function and 70 genes encoding for RNAs (10 rRNAs, 59 tRNAs and 1 tmRNA). Putative genes responsible for the biosynthesis of 4 antimicrobial peptides were identified. The NCBI Bioproject has been deposited at NCBI under the accession number PRJNA615901 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bioproject/PRJNA615901/) and consist of full annotated genome and raw sequence data.

Project description:We report the draft genome sequence of a putative probiotic strain, Lactobacillus fermentum ASBT-2, isolated from domestic sewage in Kerala, India. Project description:Lactobacillus fermentum Lf2, an Argentine cheese isolate, can produce high concentrations of exopolysaccharides (EPS). These EPS were shown to improve the texture and rheology of yogurt, as well as to play a protective role in mice exposed to Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. Three gene clusters potentially involved in EPS production were identified in different locations of the L. fermentum Lf2 genome.

Project description:The genomes of predominant Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus fermentum, and Lactobacillus delbrueckii strains from fermented nono were sequenced. The genome sizes were 2.1, 1.9, and 1.7 Mbp, respectively, and the GC contents were 36.5%, 51.5%, and 49.7%, respectively. Annotation revealed some genes for bacteriocin and for the potential production of aroma compounds.

All of the contigs were assembled by using Newbler Assembler 2.3 (454 Life Science).
