<h4>Objective</h4>To test the hypothesis that maternal complications significantly affect gut colonization patterns in very low birth weight infants.<h4>Methods</h4>Forty-nine serial stool samples were obtained weekly from nine extremely premature infants enrolled in a prospective longitudinal study.
