ABSTRACT: Here, we describe the sequencing and genome annotations of a set of four Escherichia coli bacteriophages (phages) belonging to newly discovered groups previously consisting of only a single phage and thus expand our knowledge of these phage groups.

Despite their high similarity to other phages, only about 30% of their genes have a predicted function.

Project description:Podophage Pisces was isolated against Escherichia coli strain 4s from wastewater samples. Pisces is a T7-like phage, and all 49 predicted protein-coding genes in it are present on a single strand and are surrounded by 190-bp terminal repeats. Due to its similarity to other T7-like phages, 61% of Pisces genes were assigned a predicted function.

According to their lytic activity in vitro, it seems that these phages have a potential to be used in future phage therapy treatments.
