Crystal structure of 3-bromo-2-hy-droxy-benzo-nitrile.

ABSTRACT: The crystal structure of the title compound, C7H4BrNO, has been determined, revealing a partial mol-ecular packing disorder such that a 180° rotation of the mol-ecule about the phenol C-O bond results in disorder of the bromine and nitrile groups. The disorder has been parameterized as a disorder of only the bromine and nitrile substituents on a unique phenol ring. An intra-molecular O-H⋯Br contact occurs. In the crystal, O-H⋯Br/O-H⋯Nnitrile hydrogen bonding is present between the disordered bromine and nitrile substituents and the phenol group, forming a spiral chain about a twofold screw axis extending parallel to the b-axis direction. Within this spiral chain, the mol-ecules also inter-act, forming offset face-to-face π-stacking inter-actions with plane-to-centroid distance of 3.487 (1) Å.

Project description:In the title compound, C20H14N2O2, the hy-droxy-benzene ring is almost perpendicular to the mean plane of the naphthalene ring system, making a dihedral angle of 85.56 (4)°. The 4H-pyran ring fused with the naphthalene ring system has a flattened boat conformation. In the crystal, O-H⋯N and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a supra-molecular layer in the bc plane; N-H⋯π inter-actions also contribute to this arrangement. The layers are linked by weak by C-H⋯π and π-π [inter-centroid separation = 3.8713 (7) Å] inter-actions.

Project description:Mutual carbox-yl-carboxyl O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules of the title compound, C7H5BrO3, into centrosymmetric dimers which display a central R 2 (2)(8) ring motif. In addition, there is an intra-molecular hydrox-yl-carboxyl O-H⋯O inter-action present. A comparison with the crystal structures of 59 other substituted derivatives of salicylic acid shows that both the centrosymmetric carbox-yl-carboxyl O-H⋯O dimer and the stacking mode of mol-ecules along the short a axis observed in the title structure are frequent packing motifs in this set.

Crystal structure, Hirshfeld surface analysis and DFT studies of 2-[(2-hy-droxy-5-methyl-benzyl-idene)amino]-benzo-nitrile.

Project description:The title compound, C15H12N2O, was synthesized by condensation reaction of 2-hy-droxy-5-methyl-benzaldehyde and 2-amino-benzo-nitrile, and crystallizes in the ortho-rhom-bic space group Pbca. The phenol ring is inclined to the benzo-nitrile ring by 25.65 (3)°. The configuration about the C=N bond is E, stabilized by a strong intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond that forms an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯N inter-actions lead to the formation of sheets perpendicular to the a axis. C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming polymeric chains along the a-axis direction, connect these sheets into a three-dimensional network. A Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions for the packing arrangement are from H⋯H and C⋯H/H⋯C inter-actions. The density functional theory (DFT) optimized structure at the B3LYP/6-311 G(d,p) level is compared with the experimentally determined mol-ecular structure and the HOMO-LUMO energy gap is given.

Project description:In the title compound, C16H12N2O3, the chromene ring system is nearly planar [maximum deviation from the mean plane = 0.057 (1) Å], and is almost perpendicular to the benzene ring, with a dihedral angle of 85.29 (5)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by classical N-H⋯O, O-H⋯O and O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular network. Furthermore, a weak π-π stacking inter-action is observed; the centroid-to-centroid distance is 3.7260 (7) Å.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C15H12N2O2, contains two crystallographically independent mol-ecules in which the dihedral angles between the benzene rings in each are 13.26 (5) and 7.87 (5)°. An intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds results in the formation of an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by weak C-H⋯O and C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming layers parallel to (011). In addition, π-π stacking inter-actions with centroid-centroid distances in the range 3.693 (2)-3.931 (2) Å complete the three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the title hydrate, C12H12O4·1.5H2O, one of the water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit is located on a twofold rotation axis. The mol-ecule of the benzo-furan derivative is essentially planar (r.m.s. deviation for the non-H atoms = 0.021 Å), with the ester group adopting a fully extended conformation. In the crystal, O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the water mol-ecules and the hy-droxy groups generate a centrosymmetric R 6 (6)(12) ring motif. These R 6 (6)(12) rings are fused, forming a one-dimensional motif extending along the c-axis direction.

Project description:The title compound, C14H13BrO3 [systematic name: rac-(9S,10R)-9-bromo-10-hy-droxy-8,8-dimethyl-9,10-di-hydro-2H,8H-pyrano[2,3-f]chromen-2-one], is a substituted pyran-ocoumarin, obtained by bromination of seselin [8,8-dimethyl-2H,8H-pyrano[2,3-f]chromen-2-one], which was isolated from the Indian herb Trachyspermum stictocarpum (Aajmod). The pyrano ring has a distorted half-chair conformation and its mean plane is inclined to the coumarin mean plane by 1.6 (2)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by pairs of O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers with an R22(16) ring motif. The dimers stack along the a-axis direction and are linked by offset π-π inter-actions, forming columns [inter-centroid distance = 3.514 (4) Å].

Project description:In the title compound, C13H10BrN3O2·H2O, the conformation about the azomethine double bond is E. The mol-ecule exists in the amido form with a C=O bond length of 1.229 (2) Å. There is an intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond forming an S(6) ring motif. The whole mol-ecule is almost planar, with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.021 Å for all non-H atoms, and the dihedral angle between the planes of the pyridine and benzene rings is 0.74 (12)°. In the crystal, the water mol-ecule of crystallization links the organic mol-ecules via Ow-H⋯O, Ow-H⋯N and N-H⋯Ow hydrogen bonds and short C-H⋯Ow contacts, forming sheets lying parallel to (100). Within the sheets there is a weak π-π inter-action involving the pyridine and benzene rings [centroid-to-centroid distance = 3.8473 (15) Å]. The sheets are linked via C-H⋯Br inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The benzo-pyran ring of the title com-pound, C16H11ClN2O2, is planar [maximum deviation = 0.079 (2) Å] and is almost perpendicular to the chloro-phenyl ring [dihedral angle = 86.85 (6)°]. In the crystal, N-H⋯O, O-H⋯N, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds form inter- and intra-molecular inter-actions. The DFT/B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) method was used to determine the HOMO-LUMO energy levels. The mol-ecular electrostatic potential surfaces were investigated by Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional fingerprint plots were used to analyse the inter-molecular inter-actions in the mol-ecule.

The hy-droxyl group in involved in an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond. In the crystal, π-π inter-actions between the rings of the bicycle [inter-centroid distances = 3.498 (2) and 3.539 (2) Å] pack mol-ecules into stacks along the b axis, and weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds further link these stacks into layers parallel to the ab plane.
