The X linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) is a peroxisomal disease caused by defects of the ABCD1 gene on chromosome Xq28 leading to accumulation of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA), progressive demyelination and adrenal insufficiency.
