Spiradiclislonganensis, a new species of Rubiaceae from China.

ABSTRACT: A new species of Spiradiclis (Rubiaceae) was found during our field trip to Guangxi, China, and is described here as Spiradiclislonganensis R. J. Wang. This species is readily distinguishable from other prostrate and decumbent species of the genus described previously by dense pubescence all over the plant, 5-20 small flowers per cymose, linear calyx lobes, and tubular corolla. The conservation status of VU was preliminarily assessed according to IUCN categories and criteria.

Project description:A new species of the genus Ophiorrhiza L. (Rubiaceae), Ophiorrhizashiqianensis L.D.Duan & Yun Lin, is described, illustrated and photographed from Shiqian County, Guizhou Province, South-western China. This species was found growing at the side of streams in evergreen broad-leaved forests in mountains at elevations of 960-1100 m. The new species is morphologically similar to Ophiorrhizahunanica H.S.Lo, but differs from the latter by the glabrous, glabrescent or pilose stems, the 5-10 cm long subterranean stem internodes, the glabrous or pilose petioles, the 3-5 mm long stipules, the purple corolla lobes, the ca. 12 mm long style and included stigmas in long-styled flowers and the 3-4 × 8-10 mm, glabrous or glabrescent capsules.

Spiradicliskarstana (Rubiaceae), a new species from Yunnan, China.

Project description:Spiradicliskarstana, a new species of Spiradiclis (Rubiaceae) collected from Yunnan, China, is described for the first time. It is morphologically close to S.jingxiensis, but differs from the latter mainly by its inflorescences with 5-9 flowers, its 1.5-2.4 mm long peduncles, its stipules shorter than 1 mm and the 5-12 pairs of secondary veins. The conservation status is assessed as "Vulnerable" (VU) according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.

Ophiorrhiza guizhouensis (Rubiaceae), a new species from Guizhou Province, southwestern China.

Project description:In this study, Ophiorrhiza guizhouensis, a new species of Rubiaceae from south-western China, is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically similar to O. japonica, but differs from the latter by having terete stems which are densely hirtellous, usually persistent ciliate stipules with well-developed colleters inside the base of the stipule, shorter corolla tubes and shorter stamens and styles.

Spiradiclisdetianensis (Rubiaceae, Ophiorrhizeae), a new species from southwestern Guangxi, China.

Project description:A new species of Rubiaceae, Spiradiclisdetianensis is described from a limestone karst area of southwestern China. This new species is morphologically similar to S.cordata and S.spathulata. All of them have rosetted habit and long peduncles, but it differs from the former by the cuneate leaf bases (vs. basally cordate) and much longer corolla tubes (1.8-2.2 cm long vs. ca. 5 mm long), and from the latter mainly by its tubular-funnel shaped corolla (vs. slenderly salver shaped), 4.5-6.8 (vs. 1.5-2) mm in diam, inside throat and corolla densely puberulent (vs. glabrous except a ring of long hairs at the middle). It also resembles to S.tubiflora, but differs clearly by its subrosulate habit (vs. procumbent to creeping), longer leaf blades (7.0-10.5 cm vs. 0.5-2.5 cm) and longer corolla tubes (18-22 mm vs. 14-16 mm). At same time, color photos, illustrations, detailed descriptions and conservation status of the new species are provided.

It is similar to Spiradiclis glandulosa and S. umbelliformis, but differs from the latter two in its linear stipule, short peduncle and tubular-funnelform corolla with a distinctively enlarged tube. The new species is morphologically similar to O. dulongensis, but differs from the latter by its stipules broadly triangular, 2-4 mm long, inflorescence axillary, 1-flowered, bracts lanceolate to subulate, 1-2 mm long, puberulous, calyx pilose, 1-2 mm long, lobes and tube equal length, corolla narrowly funnelform, 15 mm long, puberulous outside.

Project description:The new species Chiococca grandiflora Lorence & T.Van Devender from Sinaloa and Sonora, Mexico differs from its congeners by its larger, showy white flowers in compact cymes of 3-9, and infundibuliform corollas 16-20 mm long with tubes 13-17 mm long and lobes 3-3.5 mm long. Project description:A new species of Chapelieria was discovered during a recent field trip to the Masoala National Park in eastern Madagascar, and is described here as Chapelieriamagna Kainul., sp. nov. This species is readily distinguishable from previously described species of the genus by its quadrangular shoots, triangular-calyptrate stipules, sessile leaves, pubescent styles, and ridged fruits. It also differs in the larger number of ovules and the much larger size of leaves and fruits.

Dietzsch, sp. nov., (Rubiaceae), a new species from Honduras, differs from the other Mesoamerican Sommera species by the combination of large, obovate leaves with long red petioles, glabrous or glabrate intervenal areas, red stipules, lax, sparsely pubescent inflorescences with red axes, flowers with red hypanthium and calyx, long fruiting pedicels, and dark red mature fruits. It is known only from the type locality in Cusuco National Park.
