Crystal structure of bis-(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-3-ium) tetra-chlorido-cobaltate(II).

ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C4H7N2)2[CoCl4], consists of two 2-methyl-imidazolium cations and one tetra-hedral [CoCl4](2-) anion. The anions and cations inter-act through N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds to define layers with a stacking direction along [100]. Besides van der Waals forces, weak C-H?Cl inter-actions between these layers stabilize the crystal packing.

Project description:In the mol-ecular structure of the title compound, [NiCl2(C7H12N2S)2], the Ni(II) atom has a distorted tetra-hedral geometry, coordinated by two Cl atoms [Ni-Cl= 2.2336 (6) Å] and two thione S atoms [Ni-S= 2.3024 (6) Å]. The angles at the Ni(II) cation, which lies on a twofold rotation axis, are Cl-Ni-Cl = 115.58 (3)° and S-Ni-S = 94.55 (3)°. All other angles at the central Ni(II) atom range from 109.46 (2) to 112.96 (2)°. The C-S-Ni angle is 99.91 (6)°. The planes of two imidazolium rings make a dihedral angle of 70.56 (6)°.

The protonated 1,1'-[(biphenyl-4,4'-di-yl)bis-(meth-yl-ene)]di-1H-imidazol-3-ium cations, showing a cis conformation, link the [HgCl(4)](2-) anions into an R(4) (4)(42) motif via N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds.

The latter is disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.66:0.33 occupancy ratio. N-H⋯O and N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds involving the 2-methyl-imidazolium cation and neighbouring anions result in the formation of chains extending parallel to [001].

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, (C(6)H(16)N)(2)[CoCl(4)], is comprised of a tetrahedral [CoCl(4)](2-) anion and two independent triethyl-ammonium cations. The latter are featureless while the [CoCl(4)](2-) anion exhibits typical Co-Cl bond lengths [2.2428?(15)-2.2847?(16)?Å] and a Cl-Co-Cl angular range of 107.58?(6)-112.73?(7)°. In the crystal, N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds between the two crystallographically independent cations and the [CoCl(4)](2-) anion generate discrete ion triplets. The two Co-Cl bonds involved in these inter-actions are slightly longer than the remaining two.

Project description:In the title compound, (C(5)H(7)N(2))(2)[CoCl(4)], the cobalt(II) ion is coordinated by four chloride ions in a slightly distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The crystal packing is stabilized by inter-molecular N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonding, forming a three-dimensional network. The crystal was a non-merohedral twin emulating tetra-gonal symmetry, but being in fact ortho-rhom-bic.

Project description:The title salt, (C5H6ClN2)2[CoCl4], was synthesized by slow evaporation of an aqueous solution at room temperature. The asymmetric unit consists of two essentially planar (C5H6ClN2)(+) cations [maximum deviations = 0.010?(3) and 0.014?(3)?Å] that are nearly perpendicular to each other [dihedral angle = 84.12?(7)°]. They are bonded through N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds to distorted [CoCl4](2-) tetra-hedra, leading to the formation of undulating layers parallel to (100). The structure is isotypic with the Zn analogue [Kefi et. al (2011). Acta Cryst. E67, m355-m356.].

Project description:In the unit cell of the title compound, (C21H27N2)3[CoBr4]Br·6CHCl3, the tetrabromidocobaltate(II) anion and the bromide anion are located on a crystallographic threefold rotation axis. For the [CoBr4](2-) group, the axis runs through one of the Br ligands and the Co(II) atom. All other structure moieties lie on general sites. Various tris-(1,3-dimesityl-4,5-di-hydro-1H-imidazol-3-ium) structures with different counter-ions have been reported. In the title compound, the N-C-N angle is 113.7 (5)°, with short C-N bond lengths of 1.297 (7) and 1.307 (7) Å. The two mesityl planes make a dihedral angle of 34.6 (1)° and the dihedral angles between the mesityl and N-C-N planes are 82.0 (1) and 88.5 (1)°, respectively. The imidazoline ring is almost planar, with atom deviations in the range 0.003 (5)-0.017 (5) Å from the best plane; the mean deviation is 0.012 (5) Å. In the crystal, non-covalent inter-actions of the C-H⋯Br type occur between the Br(-) anion and the cation, as well as between the [CoBr4](2-) anion and both the chloro-form solvent mol-ecules. These H⋯A distances are slightly shorter than the sum of van der Waals radii.

Project description:The title compound, (C(4)H(10)NO)(2)[CoCl(4)], is an ionic compound consisting of two protonated tetra-hydro-1,4-oxazine (morpholine) cations and a [CoCl(4)](2-) dianion. The Co(II) ion is in a tetra-hedral coordination geometry. The cations exhibit chair-shaped conformations. A three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture is formed through N-H?Cl and C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds between the dianions and the cations.
