IκB kinase/nuclear [corrected] factor κB (IKK/NF-κB) signaling exhibits important yet opposing functions in hepatocarcinogenesis. Mice lacking NEMO in liver parenchymal cells (LPC) spontaneously develop steatohepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) suggesting that NF-κB prevents liver disease and cancer.
