ABSTRACT: In the title mol-ecular salt, C7H7N2 (+)·Br(-), all the non-H atoms lie on crystallographic mirror planes. The packing consists of (010) cation-anion layers, with the cations forming dimeric units via very weak pairwise C-H?N inter-actions. Weak C-H?Br inter-actions link the cations to the anions.

The supra-molecular layers are stabilized and connected by C-H?O hydrogen bonding to consolidate a three-dimensional architecture. A close pyridin-ium-perchlorate N?O contact [2.867?(5)?Å] is noted. The crystal was refined as an inversion twin.

Project description:In the title compound, C(6)H(5)N(2) (+)·Br(-), the pyridine N atom is protonated and involved in an inter-molecular N-H?Br hydrogen bond which, together with weak C-H?N hydrogen bonds, results in the formation of a chain along the c axis. Weak inter-molecular C-H?Br inter-actions between pyridine H atoms and Br(-) anions connect these chains into a network parallel to the bc plane.

Project description:In the cation of the title mol-ecular salt, C15H18NO+·Br-, the pyridinium and phenyl rings are inclined to one another by 11.80?(8)°. In the crystal, the Br- anion is linked to the cation by a C-H?Br hydrogen bond. The cations stack along the b-axis direction and are linked by further C-H?Br inter-actions, and offset ?-? inter-actions [inter-centroid distances = 3.5733?(19) and 3.8457?(19)?Å], forming slabs parallel to the ab plane. The effects of the C-H?X- inter-action on the NMR signals of the ortho- and meta-pyridinium protons in a series of related ionic liquids, viz. 4-methyl-1-(4-phen-oxy-but-yl)pyridin-1-ium salts, are reported and discussed.

Project description:The title mol-ecular salt, C8H13N2 (+)·Br(-), crystallizes with two independent 3-amino-pyridinium cations and two bromide anions in the asymmetric unit (Z' = 2). In the pyridine ring, the N atom is alkyl-ated by a propyl group. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the pyridinium ring and the propyl group is 84.84?(2)° in cation A, whereas the corresponding angle is 89.23?(2)° in cation B. In the crystal, the anions and cations are linked via N-H?Br and C-H?Br hydrogen bonds, forming chains propagating along [100].

In the cations, the planes of the pyridine and benzene rings are inclined to one another by 79.32?(8) and 82.30?(10)° in ion pairs A and B, respectively. In the crystal, the anions and cations are connected by N-H?Br hydrogen bonds, forming a centrosymmetric tetra-mer-like unit enclosing an R 8 (4)(16) ring motif. These units are linked via C-H?Br hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network.

The inter-layer distance, including that between aligned N atoms from alternating cations and anions in adjacent layers, is exceptionally short at 3.055?(1)?Å. Two-dimensional C-H?O hydrogen-bonded networks link cations to anions, while C-H?N inter-actions link cations within each layer. Anion-? inter-actions with the cations assist in binding the layers together.
