N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) hypofunction in parvalbumin-expressing (PV+) inhibitory neurons (INs) may contribute to symptoms in patients with schizophrenia (SZ). This hypothesis was inspired by studies in humans involving NMDAR antagonists that trigger SZ symptoms.
