Coordination polymers of 5-substituted isophthalic acid.

ABSTRACT: The synthesis and characterisation of five coordination polymers - Ni₂(mip)₂(H₂O)₈·2H₂O (1), Zn₆(mip)₅(OH)₂(H₂O)₄·7.4H₂O (2), Zn₆(mip)₅(OH)₂(H₂O)₂·4H₂O (3), Mn(HMeOip)₂ (4), and Mn₃(tbip)₂(Htbip)₂(EtOH)₂ (5) - are reported. Preliminary nitric oxide release data on compounds 2 and 3 are also given.

Project description:A series of potassium salts of di- and tri-arylsubstituted cyclopentadienes has been obtained by the metalation of the corresponding cyclopentadienes with benzylpotassium in THF media. Crystals of all compounds, afforded by recrystallization from THF/hexane, diglyme-THF/hexane and toluene/hexane mixtures, have been studied by X-ray diffraction. All studied potassium cyclopentadienides exhibit the luminescence at room temperature and overall quantum yield of photoluminescence for potassium salt of diarylsubstituted cyclopentadiene is 18%.

Assembly of a series of zinc coordination polymers based on 5-functionalized isophthalic acids and dipyridyl.

Project description:To investigate the influence of different 5-functionalized isophthalate ligands on the self-assembly and structures of Zn(ii)-based coordination polymers (CPs), we selected four 5-functionalized isophthalate ligands coordinated with 4,4'-bipyridyl (bpy) and Zn(ii) salt, and four new CPs, namely, {[Zn(EtOip)(bpy)]·2H2O} n (1), {[Zn(PrOip)(bpy)]·2H2O} n (2), [Zn( n BuOip)(bpy)] n (3) and [Zn( n PeOip)(bpy)] n (4) (where EtOip = 5-ethoxyisophthalate, PrOip = 5-n-propoxyisophthalate, n BuOip = 5-n-butoxyisophthalate and n PeOip = 5-n-pentyloxyisophthalate), were prepared under hydrothermal conditions. Moreover, we considered changing the features of the N-ligands (length), which are expected to alter the structural diversities and properties of the resultant CPs. We used 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene (bpe) to replace bpy; and obtained four new coordination polymers (CPs), namely, {[Zn(EtOip)(bpe)]·H2O} n (5), {[Zn(PrOip)(bpe)]·H2O} n (6), {[Zn( n BuOip)(bpe)]·0.5DMF} n (7) and [Zn( n PeOip)(bpe)] n (8). All of these compounds were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis and powder X-ray diffraction measurements. Single-crystal X-ray analysis reveals that the structure of complexes 1-4 are very similar, although different functionalized-isophthalate ligands are employed. Complexes 5, 6 and 7 possess a two-dimensional (2D) layered structure, and the 2D framework of complexes 5 and 7 can be rationalized to be a threefold interpenetrating four-connected {44·62} topological sql network, while 6 exhibits a twofold interpenetrating 4-connected 2D framework. Compound 8 features a 6-connected 3D topology net based on a novel bimetallic unit [(Zn)2(CO2)2] linked by mixed n PeOip and bpe ligands. Moreover, thermal and photoluminescence properties of the synthesized complexes were also studied in detail.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, C(8)H(5)NO(6), both carboxyl groups are involved in inter-molecular centrosymmetric cyclic O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding associations, which give a zigzag chain structure extending along (2[Formula: see text]1). Weak π-π stacking inter-actions are also present [minimum ring centroid separation = 3.893 (4) Å].

5-Fluoro-isophthalic acid.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, C(8)H(5)FO(4), the complete molecule is generated by crystallographic twofold symmetry with two C atoms and the F atom lying on the axis. The mol-ecule is almost planar with the carboxyl group twisted with respect to the mean plane of the benzene ring by a dihedral angle of 2.01 (1)°. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and C-H⋯F inter-actions connect the mol-ecules into a two-dimensional supra-molecular array.

Synthesis of 5-Substituted Derivatives of Isophthalic Acid as Non-Polymeric Amphiphilic Coating for Metal Oxide Nanoparticles.

Project description:In the course of development of novel capping ligands with variable steric factor, which will be used as an organic coating for metal oxide nanoparticles, a base-catalyzed nucleophilic oxirane ring-opening addition reaction between dimethyl 5-hydroxyisophthalate and allyl glycidyl ether was studied. The allyl-terminated 1-1, 1-2 and 1-3 adducts and dihydroxylated derivative of the 1-1 adduct, 5-diglyceroxy isophthalic acid, were synthesized. The latter binds to the surface of 5 nm γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles in reaction with their surfactant-free diethylene glycol colloids.

4,6-Dibromo-isophthalic acid monohydrate.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title hydrate, C(8)H(4)Br(2)O(4)·H(2)O, O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a two-dimensional network parallel to (10-2). The acid groups of the main mol-ecule and the water mol-ecule are all involved in the supra-molecular structure. The dihedral angles between the benzene ring and the acid groups are 37.8 (4) and 36.4 (5)°, while the dihedral angle between the acid groups is 10.9 (4)°.

The acid and base subunits are arrange alternately in the crystal structure, displaying a wave-like tape motif via inter-molecular O-H⋯N and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds [carbox-yl-pyridine synthon of R(2) (2)(7) hydrogen-bond notation], which are further combined into a two-dimensional architecture through C-H⋯F inter-actions involving the bipy and H(2)fip mol-ecules.
