Draft Genome Sequence of Bacillus licheniformis Strain GB2, a Hydrocarbon-Degrading and Plant Growth-Promoting Soil Bacterium.

ABSTRACT: We report the 4.39 Mb draft genome of Bacillus licheniformis GB2, a hydrocarbonoclastic Gram-positive bacterium of the family Bacillaceae, isolated from diesel-contaminated soil at the Ford Motor Company site in Genk, Belgium. Strain GB2 is an effective plant-growth promoter useful for diesel fuel remediation applications based on plant-bacterium associations.

Effectiveness of <i>Bacillus pumilus</i> PDSLzg-1, an innovative Hydrocarbon-Degrading Bacterium conferring antifungal and plant growth-promoting function.

Project description:Genome of the hydrocarbon-degrading bacterium Bacillus pumilus PDSLzg-1 was analyzed. A group of gene clusters and pathways associated with nitrogen fixation, plant-bacterial interactions, plant growth-promoting hormone synthesis, antibiotics, secondary metabolite, and disease resistance were identified. In addition, 0.06 mg/L of 3-indoleacrylic acid (IAA) and 2 mg/L of gibberellin (GA) were, respectively, detected in PDSLzg-1 fermentation broth by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Up-regulated expression levels of 11 key genes related to GA and IAA biosynthesis pathways were detected after the induction of 0.2% n-hexadecane. Furthermore, bioassays showed that PDSLzg-1 fermentation could significantly promote the length and biomass of the stems and roots of Triticum aestivum L., while inhibited Colletotrichum truncatum colonization. Results indicated that B. pumilus PDSLzg-1 had plant growth-promoting and antifungal functions, besides its potential applications in phyto-microbial bioremediation combinations for oil-contaminated soil.

Draft genome sequence data of a chromium reducing bacterium, <i>Bacillus licheniformis</i> strain KNP.

Project description:A chromium-reducing bacterium designated as strain KNP was isolated from a sample collected from a tannery effluent of Kanpur, India. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain KNP belonged to the Bacillus genus and showed 100% similarity with Bacillus licheniformis. Furthermore, average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization between strain KNP and its closely related strains confirmed its affiliation with Bacillus licheniformis species. Whole-genome sequencing of Bacillus licheniformis KNP was performed using the Illumina Hiseq platform. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of Bacillus licheniformis KNP. The total size of the draft assembly was 4,280,093?bp, distributed into 21 contigs with an N50 value of 4,186,229. The genome has 45.9% G?+?C content, 4255 coding sequences and 86 putative RNA genes. This Whole Genome Shotgun project has been deposited at DDBJ/ENA/GenBank under the accession JACDXS000000000. The version described in this paper is version JACDXS010000000.

Genome size was 6,399,828 bp, with a GC content of 61.5%. This draft genome consists of 35 scaffolds, with an N50 of 389,921 bp.
