Project description:The main aim of the study was to assess the psychometric properties of the Polish version of the task and ego orientation in sport questionnaire (TEOSQ). The study covered 651 athletes aged 19.2 years, SD (Standard deviation) = 2.21. The task and ego orientation in sport questionnaire (TEOSQ) and sport motivation scale (SMS-28) were used. Cronbach's Alpha for the ego subscale was 0.84, and for the task subscale 0.81 (McDonald's omega was 0.84, 0.82 respectively). The reliability of the test-retest with two weeks interval was ICC (Intraclass correlation coefficient) = 0.86 for ego and ICC = 0.86 for task. Initially, the two-factor model was not fully fitted (CFI (Comparative fit index) = 0.84), however the model with correlated errors for selected test items was well fitted to data (CFI = 0.95). Statistically significant, positive correlations between the task orientation and the intrinsic motivation components were obtained. Additionally, individual athletes had higher scores on the ego factor and lower scores on the task factor than the team athletes. These effects were moderated by the level of participation and occurred among high-performance athletes. Due to satisfactory reliability and validity indicators the Polish version of the task and ego orientation in sport questionnaire (TEOSQ) can be used both for scientific research and in the individual diagnostics of athletes.

Project description:The time on task (ToT) effect describes the relationship of the time spent on a cognitive task and the probability of successful task completion. The effect has been shown to vary in size and direction across tests and even within tests, depending on the test taker and item characteristics. Specifically, investing more time has a positive effect on response accuracy for difficult items and low ability test-takers, but a negative effect for easy items and high ability test-takers. The present study sought to test the replicability of this result pattern of the ToT effect across samples independently drawn from the same populations of persons and items. Furthermore, its generalizability was tested in terms of differential correlations across ability tests. To this end, ToT effects were estimated for three different reasoning tests and one test measuring natural sciences knowledge in 10 comparable subsamples with a total N = 2640. Results for the subsamples were highly similar, demonstrating that ToT effects are estimated with sufficient reliability. Generally, faster answers tended to be more accurate, suggesting a relatively effortless processing style. However, with increasing item difficulty and decreasing person ability, the effect flipped to the opposite direction, i.e., higher accuracy with longer processing times. The within-task moderation of the ToT effect can be reconciled with an account on effortful processing or cognitive load. By contrast, the generalizability of the ToT effect across different tests was only moderate. Cross-test relations were stronger in relative terms if performance in the respective tasks was more strongly related. This suggests that individual differences in the ToT effect depend on test characteristics such as their reliabilities but also similarities and differences of their processing requirements.

Project description:This study aimed to translate the Talent Development Environment Questionnaire into Spanish and provide an initial validation. A recommended methodology for translation and cultural adaptation of questionnaires was applied. Once this had been completed, three hundred and thirty-two young athletes completed the Talent Development Environment Questionnaire. The results revealed that the five factor solution Talent Development Environment Questionnaire was confirmed. With the exclusion of one item due to low factor loading, the Talent Development Environment Questionnaire-5 had robust statistical support for its factor structure (χ2 (df = 305) = 499.64, p<0.01, CFI = 0.90, RMSEA = 0.045, SRMR = 0.055). It also demonstrated adequate convergent and discriminant validity. While the internal reliability was lower than in previous studies, it revealed acceptable levels. Specifically the overall 27 item Talent Development Environment Questionnaire-5 had a Cronbach α score of .877, and the reliability scores for individual factors 1-5 were .622; .761; .658; .605; .602 respectively. As such, it is recommended that the Spanish Talent Development Environment Questionnaire-5 can be used with confidence in Spain in both applied and research settings.

Project description:A noted decrease in adolescent physical activity in the past decade has resulted in an increase in health risks. Sport orientation correlates closely with physical activity. A sufficient assessment scale that measures an individual's sport orientation is important to measure an adolescent's physical inactivity. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a short version of the Sport Orientation Questionnaire for Chinese Adolescents (SOQ-CA). Based on Gill's SOQ and previous literature, an initial 30-item questionnaire was developed to create the original SOQ-CA. A five-point Likert scale was used to measure by self-report. In this study, three surveys were conducted. Volunteer participants completed 1,235 valid questionnaires. The data of the first collection sample (n = 486) were split randomly into two groups, sample 1 (n = 150) used for exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and sample 2 (n = 336) for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The data of the second (n = 377) and third (n = 372) collection samples were used to perform test-retest reliability, internal consistency, and CFA of the SOQ-CA. The SOQ-CA obtained good reliability and validity through both EFA and CFA. The development of the SOQ-CA provides an opportunity to develop further theories and practices regarding the assessment of both sport motivation and individual achievement orientation. The application of the SOQ-CA in China would be significant for monitoring the development of adolescent physical activity and aiding in the implementation of policies.

Project description:BackgroundThe original version of Victorian Institute of Sport Assessment-Patella Questionnaire (VISA-P) is developed in English, and aimed to assess the severity of patellar tendinopathy symptoms. Before used in China, it should be translated to Chinese version.ObjectivesOur aim is to make a translation/cross-culturally adaption for the VISA-P into simplified Chinese version (VISA-PC). And primarily validate the VISA-PC in Chinese speaking population.MethodsThe translation process of VISA-P questionnaire into simplified Chinese version (VISP-PC) followed the International recognized guideline. Cross-cultural adaptation was carried out with a clinical measurement study. A total of 128 projects which consisted 33 healthy students, 39 patients with patellar tendinopathy and 56 military students (receive military training as at-risk population) were included into this study. Internal consistency was evaluated with Cronbach's alpha, and test-retest reliability was assessed with intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs). Construct validity and floor and ceiling effects were also tested.ResultsThe scores were 95.84 ± 5.97 of healthy group, 91.87 ± 9.03 of at-risk group, 62.49 ± 11.39 of pathological group. There is no ceiling and floor effect of VISA-PC. The Cronbach's alpha (0.895) and ICC (0.986) values showed good internal consistency and reliability. There were high correlations between VISA-PC and Kujala patellofemoral score (r = 0.721). VISA-PC score also had good correlation with the relevant SF-36 items.ConclusionThe VISA-PC was well translated into simplified Chinese version (VISA-PC), which is reliable and valid for Chinese-speaking patients with patellar tendinopathy.Level of evidenceII.

Project description:This study sought to (a) replicate infant temperament profiles from predominantly White samples in a sample of low-income, predominantly first-generation Mexican-American families, (b) investigate associations between infant temperament profiles and toddler behavioral and physiological regulation, and (c) explore whether mothers' cultural orientation would moderate those associations. Mothers and infants (n = 322; 46% male) were assessed during pregnancy and at infant ages 9, 12, and 24 months. Latent profile analysis yielded three temperament profiles that were consistent with those from extant research. Compared to the high positive affect, well-regulated profile, the negative reactive, low regulated profile was associated with poorer behavioral and parasympathetic (i.e., respiratory sinus arrhythmia) regulation, but associations depended on mothers' Mexican and Anglo cultural orientation.

Project description:The purpose of this study was to examine the cross-cultural validity of the Organizational Stressor Indicator for Sport Performers (OSI-SP) scale by investigating its psychometric properties with Ghanaian footballers. The study particularly sought to assess in the Ghanaian context, 1, the convergence validity and reliability of the OSI-SP scale, 2, the discriminant validity of the OSI-SP scale to understand the applicability of its factor structure, and 3, whether the OSI-SP hypothesized model fits the data collected within the study context. The intensity aspect of the OSI-SP questionnaire was administered to 424 Ghana Premier League (GPL) male footballers who took part in the 2020/2021 season. Quality control strategies were put in place to ensure consistency across interpreters and as well improve the validity of the data. The results from a multi-factor first-order confirmatory factor analysis showed some level of convergence validity of the OSI-SP scale in the Ghanaian context using football players. Out of the 23 items on the original scale, 20 met the factor loadings criterion. In assessing the discriminant validity of the OSI-SP scale using Heterotrait-monotrait (HTMT), 50% of the correlation ratios met the criterion for the original 23-item instrument. Comparing the new model (with the 20-items) with the original model (with 23-items) using the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) value, the model fit indices for the modified model (20-items) appeared better than the original model with 23-items. Generally, there was minimal support for the applicability of the OSI-SP instrument across the sample of Ghanaian footballers. The implications of these findings are discussed in detail.

Project description:BackgroundAn instrument to assess Allergic Rhinitis (AR) Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQL) in adult patients was developed in Spain. No validated instrument is currently cross-culturally adapted for use in daily practice to assess HRQL in AR patients in Colombia.PurposeThe aim of this study was to evaluate the measurement performance of an AR-HRQL specific questionnaire, ESPRINT-15 (Cuestionario ESPañol de Calidad de Vida en RINiTis), in Colombian adult patients with AR using the Classic Test Theory (CTT) and the Generalizability theory (G-theory) frameworks.MethodsWe conducted the cross-cultural adaptation in 2 stages. In stage 1, we evaluated comprehensibility, acceptability, and feasibility of ESPRINT-15 in healthy adults and adult patients with AR. In stage 2, we examined both reliability and validity of ESPRINT-15 scores using CTT and overall reliability applying the G-theory in adult patients with AR.ResultsFor feasibility and acceptability, all items showed a higher than 95% level of understanding, and modifications in the original questionnaire were unnecessary. Reliability and validity using CTT showed a high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha and Mc McDonald's omega = 0.95) and test-retest reliability (scores from 0.70 to 0.76). The overall reliability score using G-theory was 0.75, and G-coefficients scores associated with internal consistency and test-retest reliability measures were 0.96 and 0.61, respectively. Validity using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) identified 2 factors instead of the original ESPRINT-15 4 domains. However, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) showed good fit regarding the original model.ConclusionsThe proposed cross-cultural adaptation of ESPRINT-15 showed good reliability and validity measures. Additionally, it was easy to use and administer. ESPRINT-15 can be used clinically and for research in Colombian adults' patients with AR. CTT and the G-theory can be used in epidemiological studies to adapt AR-HRQL questionnaires cross-culturally in adult patients with AR.

Project description:BackgroundThe Extended Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ-E) had never been adapted into Arabic. We culturally adapted the NMQ-E to Arabic in five stages and investigated its psychometric properties.MethodsAfter translating and cross-culturally adapting the NMQ-E into Arabic, through forward translation, translation synthesis, backward translation, expert committee review, and pilot testing, the psychometric properties were investigated. The construct validity was assessed by having the participants completing the Arabic version of the NMQ-E with four Arabic scales that measured musculoskeletal pain in all regions covered in the NMQ-E. Participants' baseline records were also used to evaluate internal consistency (Cronbach's α). Seven days later, participants completed the Arabic NMQ-E again to evaluate its test-retest reliability employing intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and standard error of measurement (SEM) for the age questions, and Cohen's kappa coefficient (κ), the proportion of observed agreement (Po), the proportion of positive agreement (Ppos), and the proportion of negative agreement (Pneg) for the dichotomous items.ResultsA total of 127 participants, 70 males and 57 females with mean age 32.5 ± 12.2 years, were included. Significant differences were found between participants with and without musculoskeletal pain in the corresponding scales, signifying the content validity of the questionnaire. Cronbach's α for both the prevalence and consequences pain sections combined ranged from 0.30 to 1.00. The test-retest reliability of the age questions was excellent, with ICC values ranging between 0.995 and 1.00. The SEM was 0.77 for the neck region and 0 for the rest of the regions. The prevalence questions demonstrated almost perfect agreement, with κ values ranging between 0.82 and 1.00, the Po between 0.94 and 1.00, the Ppos between 0.80 and 1.00, and the Pneg between 0.93 and 1.00. The consequences of pain questions showed moderate-to-perfect agreement, with κ values ranging between 0.57 and 1.00, between 0.83 and 1.00 for the Po, between 0.50 and 1.00 for the Ppos, and between 0.86 and 1.00 for the Pneg.ConclusionsThe results suggest that the Arabic NMQ-E is a valid and reliable tool that can be used to screen Arab adults for the prevalence and consequences of musculoskeletal pain.

Project description:The main aim of the study is a comprehensive assessment of psychometric properties of the Polish version of Perception of Success Questionnaire (POSQ) in sport. Apart from standard psychometric evaluation, the paper presents an analysis of item reliability through the use of Item Response Theory, as well as the analysis of relationships between sport type, level of participation, gender and goal orientation level. The study covered 412 people aged M = 23.46 (SD = 5.40). The Perception of Success Questionnaire (POSQ), the Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire (TEOSQ) and the Sport Motivation Scale (SMS-28) were used. High reliability of POSQ ego subscale (? = 0.89, ? = 0.89) and POSQ task subscale (? = 0.90, ? = 0.91) were noted. The test-retest correlations at the two-week interval were ICC = 0.91 for ego subscale, and ICC = 0.71 for task subscale, respectively. Confirmatory factor analysis showed a relatively good fit of the two-factor model to the data (CFI = 0.94). Relationships between the goal orientation measured by the POSQ questionnaire and motivational traits measured by TEOSQ and SMS-28 were obtained. It was also shown that high-performance athletes had higher scores on the ego factor than recreational athletes. Moreover, men had higher scores on the ego factor than women. The Perception of Success Questionnaire (Polish version) is characterized by satisfactory psychometric properties and can be used for scientific research and diagnosis.
