Yamatochaitophorus yichunensis, a new species of aphid (Aphididae: Chaitophorinae) from northeast China.

ABSTRACT: Yamatochaitophorus yichunensis sp. n. is described from specimens collected in northeast China on Acer tegmentosum (Aceraceae). Yamatochaitophorus is also a new generic record for China. Type specimens are deposited in the National Zoological Museum of China, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China (NZMC) and the Natural History Museum, London, UK (BMNH).

Project description:Ericaphisvoegtlini sp. n. living on Chamaebatiafoliolosa (Rosaceae) in California is described based on apterous and alate viviparous females. The new species differs from all other species of the genus Ericaphis Börner, 1939 in several important morphological characters including very long and rigid dorsal setae and distinctly swollen siphunculi with clearly visible polygonal reticulation.

Soybean aphid, Aphis glycines (Hemiptera: Aphididae), developmental and reproductive capacity on white clover, Trifolium repens (Rosales: Leguminosae), in northeast China.

Project description:Nymphs of Aphis glycines Matsumura were individually reared to adults in the laboratory on detached leaf discs of Trifolium repens L. (white clover) mounted on agar medium. Adults of A. glycines were fed T. repens within small clip cages in the field. Development, reproduction and intrinsic rates of increase of A. glycines were studied. These data were compared to those of controls fed known host plants including cultivated soybean Glycine max (L.) Merr. and the wild soybean species Glycine soja Sieb & Zucc. The results demonstrated that nymphs of A. glycines successfully developed into adults and reproduced efficiently when reared on T. repens in the laboratory. The lower development temperature threshold for nymphs fed T. repens was estimated as 8.27 °C, and the effective cumulative temperature for A. glycines development from nymph to adult was 90.91 degree-days. Adults of A. glycines could also survive on T. repens in the field, but only a few nymphs were produced.

A new species of Chucallis Tao (Hemiptera, Aphididae, Calaphidinae) from China.

Project description:A new species in the aphid genus Chucallis Tao, Chucallis latusigladius Qiao, Jiang & Chen, sp. n. feeding on a species of bamboo, Indocalamus tessellatus (Munro) Keng f., is described. It differs from the only other known species in the genus by having remarkably large marginal processes on abdominal tergite IV. A key to species, morphological descriptions, distributional data and host plant information are provided. The type specimens studied are deposited in the National Zoological Museum of China, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China.

Macrosiphoniella remaudierei, a new species of aphid on Helichrysum in Iran (Hemiptera, Aphididae).

Project description:A new species of aphid, belonging to the genus Macrosiphoniella Del Guercio, 1911, is described using three samples collected in Iran on Helichrysum armenium (Asteraceae, Inuleae) by the late Prof. G. Remaudière. Both apterous and alate viviparous females of the new taxon, Macrosiphoniella remaudiereisp. n., are described and compared to corresponding morphs of the closely allied Macrosiphoniella aetnensis and to other congeneric aphid species on Helichrysum in the Palaearctic region. Type specimens are now stored in the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris.

Four new species of Mycenasect.Calodontes (Agaricales, Mycenaceae) from northeast China.

Project description:Species of Mycenasect.Calodontes are representative of the Mycena genus as a whole and are easily recognised by the pinkish, reddish, purplish to brownish pileus and larger basidiomata. Furthermore, the colour of the pileus in the species of sect. Calodontes often has a transition or changes in different stages and the combination of the colour of the pileus with cystidia and basidiospores can be used to recognise taxa within this section. To date, 19 species of Mycenasect.Calodontes have been reported worldwide. Including our recent description of M.yuezhuoi, five species of sect. Calodontes have been recorded in China. During examination of specimens collected in coniferous forests or mixed broadleaf-conifer forests in temperate regions of China, additional taxa assigned to sect. Calodontes were identified. Four new species are recognised, based mostly on characters of the pileus and cystidia. Phylogenetic analysis of sequence data from multiple DNA regions (ITS + rpb1 + tef1) supported the morphological evidence. Here, we propose M.polycystidiata, M.rufobrunnea, M.shengshanensis and M.subulata as new species in Mycenasect.Calodontes. Morphological descriptions, line drawings, habitat photos and comparisons with closely-related taxa are provided. A key to the 23 known species of sect. Calodontes is presented.

Review of Mesocallis Matsumura from China (Hemiptera, Aphididae), with one new species.

Project description:The aphid genus Mesocallis Matsumura in China is reviewed. A total of seven species are recognised using morphological characteristics, including six known species, Mesocallis (Mesocallis) alnicola Ghosh, M. (Paratinocallis) corylicola (Higuchi), M. (M.) pteleae Matsumura, M. (M.) sawashibae (Matsumura), M. (P.) yunnanensis (Zhang) and M. (M.) taoi Quednau, and one new species, M. (M.) platycaryae Qiao, sp. nov. The new species, collected on Platycarya strobilacea (Juglandaceae) in Anhui Province, China, is described and illustrated. A key to Mesocallis species from China is presented.

New records of an alien aphid species Tinocallis (Sappocallis) takachihoensis from countries in central and northern Europe (Hemiptera, Aphididae, Calaphidinae).

Project description:The aphid genus Tinocallis Matsumura, 1919 (Hemiptera: Aphididae: Calaphidinae) in central and northern Europe is reviewed; it includes four species. The first records of the Asian elm aphid Tinocallis takachihoensis Higuchi, 1972 are reported from the Czech Republic, Denmark, and Poland. The record in Denmark is the first in Scandinavia. Alate viviparous females and nymphs of T. takachihoensis were collected from Ulmus glabra "Pendula" (the Czech Republic and Poland) and from U. minor (Denmark) in 2017. Tinocallis takachihoensis is the fourth Tinocallis species to be recorded from Poland and together with two other species from the subgenus Sappocallis, T. nevskyi and T. saltans, is a species of alien origin. The alate viviparous females are reviewed and re-described and their affinities and distribution in central and northern Europe are discussed. A key to the European species of Tinocallis based on the characters of live and slide-mounted specimens is also given.
