Microbial production of isoprene from renewable feedstock is a promising alternative to traditional petroleum-based processes. Currently, efforts to improve isoprenoid production in Saccharomyces cerevisiae mainly focus on cytoplasmic engineering, whereas comprehensive engineering of multiple subcellular compartments is rarely reported.
