Inositol 1, 4, 5-trisphosphate receptor-mediated (IP<sub>3</sub>R-mediated) calcium (Ca<sup>2+</sup>) release has been proposed to play an important role in regulating vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) contraction for decades.
