The neural control of sugar consumption is critical for normal metabolism. In contrast to sugar-sensing taste neurons that promote consumption, we identify a taste neuron that limits sucrose consumption in <i>Drosophila</i>. Silencing of the neuron increases sucrose feeding; optogenetic activation decreases it.
