Crystal structure of (S)-sec-butyl-ammonium l-tartrate monohydrate.

ABSTRACT: The title hydrated mol-ecular salt, C4H12N+·C4H5O6-·H2O, was prepared by deprotonation of enanti-opure l-tartaric acid with racemic sec-butyl-amine in water. Only one enanti-omer was observed crystallographically, resulting from the combination of (S)-sec-butyl-amine with l-tartaric acid. The sec-butyl-ammonium moiety is disordered over two conformations related by rotation around the CH-CH2 bond; the refined occupancy ratio is 0.68?(1):0.32?(1). In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked through a network of O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, between the ammonium H atoms, the tartrate hy-droxy H atoms, and the inter-stitial water, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

The dihedral angle between the CO2 and CO2H planes of the anion is 18.47?(8)°. In the crystal, the anions are connected to each other by strong near-linear O-H?O hydrogen bonds. The water mol-ecules are located between the chains of anions and iso-butyl-amine cations; their O atoms participate as donors and acceptors, respectively, in O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds, which form channels (dimensions = 4.615 and 3.387?Å) arranged parallel to [010].

Crystal structure of 2-(morpholino)ethyl-ammonium picrate monohydrate.

Project description:The title compound, C6H15N2O+·C6H2N3O7 -·H2O, was synthesized via slow evaporation of an aqueous solution of picric acid with the substituted morpholine base and crystallized with one cation (C6H15N2O)+, one anion (C6H2N3O7)- and a water mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The morpholine ring in the cation adopts a chair conformation. The structure is stabilized by C-H⋯O, O-H⋯O, O-H⋯N and N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions and π-π stacking. The inter-molecular inter-actions of the synthesized compound were qu-anti-fied by Hirshfeld surface analysis.

Project description:In the title compound, 2C(8)H(20)N(+)·2C(4)H(5)O(6) (-)·C(4)H(6)O(6)·H(2)O, the presence of the two tetra-ethyl-ammonium cations is balanced by two hydrogen l-tartrate anions. Also present in the asymmetric unit are a mol-ecule of l-tartaric acid and a water mol-ecule. The various components are linked by O-H?O hydrogen bonds. In the crystal, two-dimensional networks are formed via O-H?O hydrogen bonds and C-H?O inter-actions involving the water mol-ecule, the hydrogen l-tartrate anions and the l-tartaric acid mol-ecules. These layers, which stack along [001], are separated by tetra-ethyl-ammonium cations. The latter are also involved in C-H?O inter-actions with the anions and the l-tartaric acid and water mol-ecules participating in the two-dimensional network.

Crystal structure of lead(II) tartrate: a redetermination.

Project description:Single crystals of poly[μ4-tartrato-κ(6) O (1),O (3):O (1'):O (2),O (4):O (4')-lead], [Pb(C4H4O6)] n , were grown in a gel medium. In comparison with the previous structure determination of this compound from laboratory powder X-ray diffraction data [De Ridder et al. (2002 ▶). Acta Cryst. C58, m596-m598], the redetermination on the basis of single-crystal data reveals the absolute structure, all atoms with anisotropic displacement parameters and a much higher accuracy in terms of bond lengths and angles. It could be shown that a different space group or incorporation of water as reported for similarly gel-grown lead tartrate crystals is incorrect. In the structure, each Pb(2+) cation is bonded to eight O atoms of five tartrate anions, while each tartrate anion links four Pb(2+) cations. The resulting three-dimensional framework is stabilized by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the OH groups of one tartrate anion and the carboxyl-ate O atoms of adjacent anions.

Project description:Individual ions and the solvating water mol-ecule constituting the structure of the title compound, [Fe(C8H13N)(C17H14P)]Cl·H2O, assemble into dimeric units located around crystallographic inversion centers via N-H⋯Cl and O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. These discrete fragments are further inter-connected into chains by C-H⋯O inter-actions. The disubstituted ferrocene core in the {[1'-(di-phenyl-phosphino)ferrocen-yl]meth-yl}di-methyl-ammonium cation has an approximate synclinal eclipsed conformation and is tilted by 3.40 (11)°.

Morpholin-4-ium hydrogen l-tartrate monohydrate.

Project description:In the title compound, C(4)H(10)NO(+)·C(4)H(5)O(6) (-)·H(2)O, the morpholine ring adopts a chair conformation. In the crystal, the tartrate anions are linked via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming chains propagating along [101]. These chains are linked via N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, involving the morpholinium cation and the water molecule, forming a three-dimensional network.

Structure, hydrogen bonding and thermal expansion of ammonium carbonate monohydrate.

Project description:We have determined the crystal structure of ammonium carbonate monohydrate, (NH4)2CO3·H2O, using Laue single-crystal diffraction methods with pulsed neutron radiation. The crystal is orthorhombic, space group Pnma (Z = 4), with unit-cell dimensions a = 12.047?(3), b = 4.453?(1), c = 11.023?(3)?Å and V = 591.3?(3)?Å(3) [?calc = 1281.8?(7)?kg?m(-3)] at 10?K. The single-crystal data collected at 10 and 100?K are complemented by X-ray powder diffraction data measured from 245 to 273?K, Raman spectra measured from 80 to 263?K and an athermal zero-pressure calculation of the electronic structure and phonon spectrum carried out using density functional theory (DFT). We find no evidence of a phase transition between 10 and 273?K; above 273?K, however, the title compound transforms first to ammonium sesquicarbonate monohydrate and subsequently to ammonium bicarbonate. The crystallographic and spectroscopic data and the calculations reveal a quite strongly hydrogen-bonded structure (EHB ? 30-40?kJ?mol(-1)), on the basis of H...O bond lengths and the topology of the electron density at the bond critical points, in which there is no free rotation of the ammonium cation at any temperature. The barrier to free rotation of the ammonium ions is estimated from the observed librational frequency to be ??36?kJ?mol(-1). The c-axis exhibits negative thermal expansion, but the thermal expansion behaviour of the a and b axes is ormal.

Project description:The crystallization of a 1:1 molar solution of 1,2-di-iodo-3,4,5,6-tetra-fluoro-benzene (o-DITFB) and tetra-butyl-ammonium bromide (n-Bu4NBr) from di-chloro-methane yielded pure white crystals of a halogen-bonded compound, C16H36N(+)·Br(-)·C6F4I2·0.5CH2Cl2 or [(n-Bu4NBr)(o-DITFB)]·0.5CH2Cl2. The compound may be described as a quaternary system and may be classified as a salt-cocrystal solvate. The asymmetric unit contains one mol-ecule of solvent, two o-DITFB mol-ecules, two cations (n-Bu4N(+)) and two crystallographically distinct bromide ions [θI ⋯ Br- ⋯ I = 144.18 (1) and 135.35 (1)°]. The bromide ion is a bidentate halogen-bond acceptor which inter-acts with two covalently bonded iodines (i.e. halogen-bond donors), resulting in a one-dimensional polymeric zigzag chain network approximately along the a axis. The observed short contacts and angles are characteristic of the non-covalent inter-action [d C-I⋯Br = 3.1593 (4)-3.2590 (5) Å; θC-I⋯Br = 174.89 (7) and 178.16 (7)°]. It is noted that iodine acts as both a halogen-bond donor and a weak CH hydrogen-bond acceptor, while the bromide ions act as acceptors for weak CH hydrogen bonds and halogen bonds.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, 2,4,6-tri-amino-1,3,5-triazin-1-ium cyano-acetate monohydrate, C3H7N6 +·NCCH2COO-·H2O, consists of a melaminium cation, a cyano-acetate anion and a water mol-ecule, which are connected to each other via N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating an eight-membered ring. In the crystal, the melaminium cations are connected by two pairs of N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming tapes along [110]. These tapes develop a three-dimensional network through N-H⋯O, O-H⋯O, N-H⋯N and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the cations, anions and water mol-ecules.
