Nitric oxide (NO<sup>•</sup>) is a ubiquitous molecular mediator in biology. Many signalling actions of NO<sup>•</sup> generated by mammalian NO<sup>•</sup> synthase (NOS) result from targeting of the haem moiety of soluble guanylate cyclase.
